Pfft. I've had my Creative Nomad Jukebox (same thing, cheaper and lasts longer) for two years and it continues to work fine. Has Apple fixed the battery issue with Ipods? It used to be you couldn't replace the battery, so when the battery ran out in a year, oops that 300 dollar Ipods now worth about 3 cents.
Did the US win WWII?
Old history, both.
Apple still keeps with the design decision to save weight and size and improve reliability by keeping the battery built-in. Apple will replace the battery for $50 if the iPod is out of warranty, or you can DIY with a kit for less. YMMV on battery lifetime, but I know people with first generation iPods still using them on the original battery.
Some iPods had an issue (few in number) and apple handeld it poorly. My wifes 6 year old iPod just started in teh past few months to show issues with the battery...
