I remember a few things I read about him running around purging info too. I'm speaking off the top of my head; but records in universities he attended had information changed. So I'm sure that if that record was in county, it isn't any longer.

I've got to disagree. Honor is never minor.

It's not the Honor, its the politicans attempt to grandstand on it that is minor. If they really want to do something meaningful, OUT law the selling of medals. Even thought I am a free market capitalist, that fact that Medals, Decorations for VALOR, are bought and sold pisses me off

The GOP controlled House and Senate has to pass this bill,
and get it signed into law as a top priority.

There is no valid reason why this can't be done
BEFORE the '06 elections.

If I hadn't been able to buy them, I wouldn't have gotten all the medals or badges that I earned. I know you can get a free re-issue from the Feds, but it's supposed to be a one time deal. And I never got anything from any State Guard unit I was with.

Anyhow, lots of people collect medals and treat the medals with great respect too. On the whole, I think the bill is a waste of time. Am I going to have to carry around my DD214s to keep my government happy? No way. Id rather see Al Franken wear a phony Congressional Medal of Honor than have the government pass one more damned bill on about nearly anything.

If honor is such a big deal, then the dishonor that would follow getting caught wearing unearned medals should be punishment enough. And let's be honest, if you're like me, wouldn't you rather take of the whole thing privately? wink, wink

Selling of medals is like simony (selling of relics and icons of a religious nature--which is a sin in both the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox churches...)

OUTLAW the selling of medals. THAT would be better then this stunt.

That would put a lot of collectors of militaria in hot water overnight.

The problem is not in having the medal, but in claiming falsely to have been awarded the medal.

Big difference. I have a number of medals from various countries, including a Soviet 20 year service medal (from a friend's collection in his estate). I was NOT awarded any of them, nor do I permit anyone to think I have been. No problem.

No, it will mean nothing to them. They were awarded the medals – even if they did not meet the accepted criteria. This bill is to punish those who simply buy the medals and start bragging on them.

And what is the penalty for throwing medals over the fence at the US Capital and falsely claiming they were earned by the thrower?

Has Congressman Murtha weighed in on this bill? Or is he too busy stealing valor from Iraq war vets by telling everyone how wrong the war is?

The flip side is that if they aren't, it's an easy win for them.

Let's make their lives hard and make them whine.

They were officially awarded – but in Hanoi John’s case he had to ask, beg and plead for the awards. Even his story about the “wounds” shows they weren’t of a Purple Heart nature.

" I respect all the very good work you do Cal, but this is a minor matter"

I have to agree with you. Let the veteran's groups "out" these people if it's that important. Congress legislates a new crime and we have to fund the enforcement. Just getting the records to prove a case may be a problem in many cases as some of them were destroyed in a fire in St. Louis years ago as I found out when I requested copies of mine.

PING every list you have!

Write every real Conservative Senator and Representative.

Spread the word far and wide.

This is a no brainer, conservatives control Congress
and the White House

"From Ray Funderburk, MOPH

The greatest threat to the sanctity and significance of the Purple Heart comes from the medal's easy availability. Anyone can buy one at flea markets, pawnshops or on the Internet, where Web sites offer the decoration, no questions asked, for as little as $35. An accompanying certificate on onion skin parchment and personalized with your name and any rank you choose costs about $25.

Such commerce in the symbols of American courage and sacrifice would be outlawed by a measure spearheaded last July by Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo.

His "Stolen Valor Act" would make it a federal crime to falsely wear the Purple Heart and other top military decorations, or to even list them on a resume if they were not officially earned.

But the proposed bill now sits in the House Judiciary Committee, and its fate remains unclear.
"We're waiting for the committee to act," said Salazar

Any Republican or Democrat politicians who don't get this bill passed is as guilty as the phonies that this bill targets.

The Swift Boat Vets already proved, beyond a doubt,
that hanoi kerry's 1st Purple Heart is fraudulent.

A US Attorney General can get ALL of hanoi kerry's
records and once and for all prove that the
Swift Boat Vets were accurate and true.

All that has to be done is to get this bill passed and signed into law now, before the '06 election.

Since hanoi kerry will be under indictment he'll
have to sit out the '06 election for his illegal seat
in the US Senate.

AND the best part is that it is a Democrat sponsored
bill that will his downfall.
