Syria Backs Nuclear Iran

Syria backs a nuclear Iran

By Patrick Bishop in Damascus
(Filed: 20/01/2006)

Syria yesterday backed Iran in its nuclear confrontation with the West as their leaders met in Damascus in a defiant show of solidarity.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Bashar al-Assad

The Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, welcomed Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and said the Iranian leader had the right to acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. In turn, Mr Ahmadinejad asserted his host's right to freedom from foreign interference.

Both men face confontations with the United Nations Security Council. The West is pushing for the International Atomic Energy Agency to refer Teheran to the council over its work on enriching uranium, which Europe and America fear is intended for use in nuclear weapons.

Mr Assad's regime is under intense scrutiny after a UN report implicated senior figures in the assassination last year of the former Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.

The meeting came as Mr Ahmadinejad's government warned the West that the world would face an oil crisis if Iran was referred to the council and sanctions followed. "One of the consequences will be the unleashing of a crisis in the oil sector and particularly a price hike," said Davoud Danesh-Jafari, the oil minister.

If the U.S. pulls out of Iraq and the Baathist state of Syria and the Ayatollahs in Iran are still standing, all the money spent and all the lives lost in Iraq will have been for nothing.

Surrounded by these two terrorist thug states, Iraq will one way or another be drawn back into the madness of Islamic fundamentalism.

Your grasp of history sucks. It must be comforting to be so arrogantly stupid.

Don't worry Bashar, we've got a few spare warheads for you too. Of course we'd likely not waste expensive throw away ICBMs on you, except B-1s, B-2s or even a few old 1960s built BUFFS. Maybe just a couple elements of F-15Es.

You don't want to post citations because you have none. And you have no citations because there were no insurgencies in Germany or Japan. And now the entire thread can see how empty your words are lol.

One heck of a double-edged sword, huh? It won't come to a nuclear exchange, the mullahs will keep Ahmadinejad in check for that, but you're right about Baby Assad. His daddy was smart enough to cut a deal with America during Gulf Storm; America got Iraq, Syria got Lebanon. Baby Assad's not quite so wily.

Your grasp of history is nonexistent. The Werewolves were a joke. Care to show me where it says they killed thousands of American troops? Oh, that's right, they didn't.

Germany and Japan weren't hostile when we occupied them

Japan wasn't, because in exchange for letting him remain Emperor, and for not continueing to Nuke his country, Hirohito went on the radio, almost unheard of for their God to speak to them directly, and commanded his subjects to lay down their arms and cooperate.

Some Germans however did remain hostile. Ever hear of Werewolves. Much like the few remaining Baathists in Iraq, these were hold out Nazis, Hitler Youth, and SS troops. Of course the Germans did not have nations still friendly to the Nazis on it's borders, as Iraq has at least two nations giving support to the "insurgents"/terrorists.

Different situation entirely.

We might be finished with this WW by now if trolls like you didn't have so much cover in D.C.

You're truly clueless about what is going down.

Yeah, I know about the Werewolves. They were never a threat the way the Sunni insurgency is, though, mainly because six years of total war pretty much killed off all the real dedicated Nazis, and the rest were terrified enough of the Russians enough to play real nice with our boys. My objection to the Iraq War is that it's making Iran stronger exactly when we need to be focusing all of America's efforts on weakening Iran. Iran's boys in power in Iraq - SCIRI, al-Sadr, etc. - is the equivalent of Stalin grabbing all of Eastern Europe for himself. We all agree in hindsight that it was a colossal disaster. Patton said we should have armed what was left of the Wehrmacht and let them loose on the Russkies. I'll leave the analogue in Iraq today up to you.

I would have preferred utter devastation in Iraq as was visited upon Germany and Japan, so that we could move on and finish this WW, however, there are too many ignorant chicken salads like you in America, so it's taking a little longer. Oh well, tell OBL and the boys to stay safe in Iran - for the time being.

You have managed to out yourself. The "thousands" number you hang your dissident existence on is based on war deaths, accidents and terrorist attacks. Check your WWII history again idiot.
