I have an interesting tidbit of information to share.
My old college roommate's mother is friends with Judge Alito's mother. They go to the same church in Roseland, New Jersey.
Well, the judge's mother shared something with her that hasn't been in the papers and may bring a different perspective to those tears Alito's wife shed in the hearing.
It seems Judge Alito's wife (the former Martha-Ann Bomgardner) has had personal reasons to dislike Senator Kennedy since long before Splash's shameful treatment of her husband.
Long ago, the Senator was also less than kind to girl whose family was friends with the Bombgardner family. A girl that Martha-Ann knew fairly well before her untimely demise.
A girl named Mary Jo Kopechne.
Splash.......
A completly irrelevant comment on my part....get out! That's insane.
Small world.
If true, will it make it to the MSM?
Seems that T-finK and women always have a problem when it comes to water..........
Splash is replacing Swimmer?
I second the motion.....
Unbelievable...
...the REST of the story!
OMG...
Wow!! I just knew there was something more to this.
Thanks for posting this information, dead.
CD
urban legend?
Is this story an internet email one or the real truth?
:-(
If this is true and not just rumor, it's amazing! If it's a rumor, it's a great one!
I hope Kennedy's enjoying himself now, because he's going to have some serious problems when he passes on. I doubt God holds the Kennedy name in the same esteem that the Democrats and MSM do.
Get a load of this...
It's a small world.
It's definitely a small world and "splash" has to live with that now. However, one day he will meet his maker and I wouldn't root for his chances with the Man.
OMG .. is this for real?
But not beyond believe!
Are you sure your cousins sister friends xboyfriend roomates siter that never asks you to forawrd emails to everyone on your list---didn't read it on this blog:
http://publiceyeblog.com/index.php/2006/01/alitos-wife-leaves-hearing-room-in-tears-comforted-by-gwen-kopechne/
or this blog:
http://pyjamasmedia.com/blog/?p=215
Where both claim to quote (and link to ) a washington Post article mentions kopechne but then when you clickon either blogs washington post link the kopechne paragraph isn't there.
I really have no details other than what I posted. But my friend is absolutely truthfully relaying to me what his mother said Judge Alito's mother told her.
It's a pretty short chain for a rumor (two people I've known for about twenty years) from the judge's mother.
If "Splash" is the name of Teddy's dog, what are the names of his cats? "Glub, glub" and " Help, Teddy I'm drowning"?
Those who live in glass Oldsmobiles shouldn't throw stones
WOW! Another FreeRepublic scoop!
Holy smokes.
If it does make it ti the MSM, it will SINK Kennedy this time!
ping
Kennedy is SUNK ...... this time!
I posted exactly how the rumor came to me. I can't do any better than that.
I trust my old college roommate 100%. I've never known anybody who is more above board and reliable than he is. And his mother has always seem very well grounded and intelligent to me.
I don't know the judge's mother, but she's the only other person in the rumor's history. Maybe she made it up. I don't know.
Alito ........................... ping

There's another claim, but not with the personal relationship claimed here.
"If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age." - Charles Pierce, Jan. 2003
If True, it's hugh.
Maybe Justice Alito can find some reason Teddy has to appear in court.
Your word is good in my book.
Dead, there are only a handful of FReepers I would believe about this piece of information. You are one, and the information is both eerie and chilling. Thanks for posting it.
OK, who's going to call Mrs. Bomgardner for fact checking?

Excuse me, but there is nothing inherently wrong or inconsistent between what dead posted and the info in those two blogs you linked. Both of them have the same story -- which is different from what dead posted.

Alito's Wife Leaves Hearing Room in Tears, Comforted by Gwen Kopechne
by Bachman @ 1:12 PM. Filed under Politics*WASHINGTON (Washington Post) - The wife of Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito left his confirmation hearings in tears Wednesday.
Martha-Ann Bomgardner, who had sat behind her husband for hours of questioning over several days, left as her husband was being questioned by Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
"Judge Alito, I am sorry that you've had to go through this. I am sorry that your family has had to sit here and listen to this," said Graham.
Moments earlier, the senator had asked Alito, "Are you really a closet bigot?" The nominee said no, and Graham said, "No sir, you're not."
Graham's exchange with the nominee came after withering questions from several Judiciary Committee Democrats.
While out of the room, Alito's wife received a call of encouragement form Gwen Kopechne. Mrs. Kopechne told Bomgardner (Mrs. Alito) that while she understood the emotions that caused her to leave the room, she should be thankful her family member being abused by Sen. Edward Kennedy was still in the room, and not in the back of a Buick at the bottom of a pond.
1. Mary Jo Kopechne was born in 1940 while Martha Alito was born in 1953 - thirteen years later.
2. Ms. Kopechne was raised in Pennsylvania while Mrs. Alito was raised in Kentucky with family roots in Oklahoma and Texas.

I think we're about to find out how much this site is being visited by the MSM. Even they can't resist the temptation of at least looking into whether this is possible. Were the two ladies living near each other at any times in their lives?
Make sure to email this to all your frinds 10 times and toyota will give you a new car if not you will have bad luck. LOL
Reminds me of the neighbors of Lizzie Borden, (acquitted) who told there daughter that they shunned Miss Borden because "she was unkind to her parents".
