Dennis Kelly, president of the teachers' union, said Friday he doesn't think teachers will agree to a raise of less than 10 percent.

Many plan to gather today near City Hall to hold a "Grade-In for Justice" where they will grade papers on the street to show how hard they work and that they deserve a raise.

Oh my, such a surprise outcome from the leftist teachers union...when will this country wise up and disallow unions in the education process? California is at the bottom of the academic scale (literall) and the scumbag unions are still running the show...God help our kids.

I thought this was a bit extreme, if creative, until I saw the byline said San Francisco. That explained a lot.

I recently heard, can't remember where, that the NEA is the largest union in the World. Anyone know if this is true?

When you work in a city that probably doesn't have (or need) a maternity ward - for obvious reasons - ya gotta expect some downsizing sometime...

They probably are, since the fall of their great ally, the Soviet Union.

Is it that unions screw up institutions or do losing organizations gravitate toward unionism? I'm thinking railroads, airlines, automobiles, schools...

SF teachers are offered a 7% raise and demand 10%.

They deserve a 10% cut in pay!

I know the NEA is destroying our kids' future turning out grads that can't read or write.

The teachers haven't had a raise in 3 1/2 years.

Boo freakin' hoo. The state hasn't given us a raise in... at least 12 years.

Let he teachers strike, and declare a tax holiday for all tax revenues headed towards the district. When the district comes up with an agreement with the unions, the district can then go to its customers, the taxpayers, and they can vote on resuming the tax flow back to the district.

This is exactly what would happen if the UAW walked out on Ford. At the end of the ordeal the customers gets to decide if they want to purchase.

Oh, brother. A disproportionately large percentage of public school teachers seem to be whining idiots. Do they start out that way, or do they learn it in teacher colleges?

And the voters (and non-voters) in Caleeeforrneeaaa in Nov. 05 basically gave a thumbs up to the thug Unions. By feeding those snakes they can expect to be bitten by poisonous venom. It is so very clear that Unions breed selfish destructive tactics. Public school education is already in the toilet and demanding a 10% pay raise is absurd. I hate the NEA and all union thuggery.

Both my sons were born there. There are still some exceptions. Then there was one floor for maternity, and two for aids patients.
