The man who served as the no. 2 official in Saddam Hussein's air force says Iraq moved weapons of mass destruction into Syria before the war by loading the weapons into civilian aircraft in which the passenger seats were removed.
The Iraqi general, Georges Sada, makes the charges in a new book, "Saddam's Secrets," released this week. He detailed the transfers in an interview yesterday with The New York Sun.
"There are weapons of mass destruction gone out from Iraq to Syria, and they must be found and returned to safe hands," Mr. Sada said. "I am confident they were taken over."

I think you're probably right -- which means I was absolutely correct back in 2000 when I speculated that his campaign promise to "avoid using the military for futile nation-building exercises" was utter bullsh!t.
Also, IMO, the thing would have been over a long time ago, except for the more or less constant moaning about how badly things are going there by the Democrat Pary and by the media.
I disagree with you on that point. The U.S. was thoroughly unprepared for what would happen in a post-war occupation of Iraq -- mainly because the chief architects of the war were a bunch of over-educated think-tank @ssholes who would convert to Islam before they would ever put on a military uniform.
How naive to believe we would have found these weapons when we only found earlier versions FIVE years after the Iraq War I and then ONLY because Saddam's Sons-in-Law told us where they were.
Besides we did find plenty of forbidden weapons including chemical warheads. And plans and programs and personnel all ready to ramp up things once the Treason Media did its job and convinced all that Saddam was just a kindly uncle.
Not only was this war completely necessary and laudable but it has been a tremendous success. Of course those who pay no attention to military history believe if ONE soldier is killed the whole thing is discredited.
Ironically, it was the Clinton administration's insistence that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction that were a strong indication to me that he probably didn't -- at least not as late as 1998. I find it baffling to see so many so-called conservatives fall for the same "weapons of mass destruction" nonsense that was used by the previous administration specifically to make that dysfunctional @sshole look presidential and garner political support from soccer moms with double-digit IQs.
Finally, the idea that the war is a dismal failure is specious.
That's true. In fact, suggesting that the war is a success or a failure is a futile endeavor, since you probably can't find three people in Washington these days who can even spell out the war's objectives clearly in the first place.
We always knew they were there. I think the U.S. is waiting to cripple Irag first then Syria.

I don't. In fact, my opposition to this war dates back to late 2002 -- when I knew that the "official" rationale for the war was bullsh!t.

We even attacked them.
The Russians threw a fit and we backed off.
We knew what they had, but we couldn't prove it.
BUT, most of all, we wanted them to move them.
We did not want these weapons in the hands of the terrorists.
The Russians were doing us a favor by removing them.
They have a preset plan to move any illegal weaponry they sell to other nations in case that nation is attacked.
The Russian officer in charge of the plan even wrote an article describing the whole deal.
The weapons are safe where they are, and we want them to stay there.

17.5 tons equals 35,000 lbs of chemical that Zarqawi was planning to blow up in downtown Amman causing 20 to 80,000 deaths (of Muslims). There's been nothing more about this attempted attack. There's been nothing on where the chemicals came from. Are these part of Saddam's chemical weapons program?

Jordanian officials seized tons of chemicals in what they say was an Al Qaeda chemical attack plot.

AMMAN, Jordan (CNN) -- Jordanian authorities said Monday they have broken up an alleged al Qaeda plot that would have unleashed a deadly cloud of chemicals in the heart of Jordan's capital, Amman.
The plot would have been more deadly than anything al Qaeda has done before, including the September 11 attacks, according to the Jordanian government.
Among the alleged targets were the U.S. Embassy, the Jordanian prime minister's office and the headquarters of Jordanian intelligence.
U.S. intelligence officials expressed caution about whether the chemicals captured by Jordanian authorities were intended to create a "toxic cloud" chemical weapon, but they said the large quantities involved were at a minimum intended to create "massive explosions."
Officials said there is debate within the CIA and other U.S. agencies over whether the plotters were planning to kill innocent people using toxic chemicals.
At issue is the presence of a large quantity of sulfuric acid among the tons of chemicals seized by Jordanian authorities. Sulfuric acid can be used as a blister agent, but it more commonly can increase the size of conventional explosions, according to U.S. officials.
Nevertheless, U.S. intelligence officials called the capture of tons of chemicals that together could create several large conventional explosions "a big deal."
Actually, now I do remember that incident. The lack of definitive information about what exactly was supposed to happen there speaks volumes about why nobody has paid much attention to it since then.
