CNN

Wolf Blizer on "The Situation Room" reported that the republicans have more then enough votes for cloture, as many as 70. Looks like Kerry jumped the gun a bit too fast.

How embarrasing it must be for the liberal Democrats if they attempt a failed filibuster, with many of their own members (and not just the few DINOs) voting for Alito?

55 Republicans + Byrd, Ben Nelson, Landrieu, Johnson have announced support for cloture.

That's 59, I'm sure there is one more vote for cloture in there somewhere.

Kerry's call to "filibuster" is just a PR stunt.

Will Kerry get a Purple Hemorrhoid now ?

Haha! He also has earned the Purple Tinman "If I only had a brain" Award. I think he is belatedly starting to suffer from post-election Goritis syndrome.

This was all a stunt on Kerry's part to position himself for '08. Nothing more to see, move along.

Kerry is a fool, clearly. Instead of 'calling for fillibuster' just START ONE. A fillibuster consists of taking the floor and talking non-stop. HE'S GREAT AT THAT! He can yeild to the other true-believers who are following the NY Times marching orders. Go for it man!

Thats a vote for alito.. Cloture will get many more votes... You can vote against Alito but still vote to cut off debate, which atleast 5-10 more will do.

The Dims are afraid of losing the filibuster. As someone smart said a few days ago, the only way the Dims can keep the (juducial appointments) filibuster is to never use it.

You've got to be kidding. Of course Kerry can be more of a stupid @ss. Just sit back and watch. This guy continues to push the stupid @ss benchmark. He is limitless in his ability to do and say stupid @ss things.

I don't think so. I think he knows this isn't going to happen, but he's outflanking Hillary!(tm) to the left, trying to curry favor with the moonbats.

The agreement that Frist and Reid entered into provides for skipping the cloture vote, if conditions indicate.

Frist should force a Cloture vote IMO. All this agreement is is so the Dems can smokescreen how they would have voted has a cloture vote been held.

This way they can stick thier fingers in the air and say "I was for a filibuster but we weren't allowed to vote cloture because the leadership made this deal" etc etc without ever having a yea or nea entered into the record.

As far as I know Landrieu hasn't announced one way or another on confirmation, but has said no filibuster.
