US won't cut PA ties if Hamas in cabinet
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 01/29/06 | HERB KEINON

The US won't deal with Hamas ministers in a future Palestinian Authority government, but will also not cut off ties with the PA as a result of Hamas's inclusion, diplomatic officials said Monday.

According to the officials, the US formula for dealing with a PA government following Wednesday's elections would be based on the "Lebanese model." In Lebanon, the officials said, the US continues to have strong ties with the government in Beirut even though Hizbullah is part of it. It does not, however, have any contact with the one Hizbullah minister.

The officials said that since Hamas was on the US list of terrorist organizations, the US would be legally proscribed from having contact or dealing with Hamas officials, even if they were PA ministers.

At the same time, they said, the law would not necessarily proscribe the US from continuing to deal with the PA or contributing money to it.

These comments came as Israeli diplomats were quietly holding conversations with their counterparts in Europe and the US over the steps they should take if Hamas became the dominant force inside the PA.

The US Congress passed a resolution late last year condemning Hamas's participation in the election, and warning that financial assistance to the PA could be blocked if Hamas's terrorist infrastructure was not dismantled.

In other news, commenting on an al qaeda appeal for US aid and technical assistance, Senator Chuck Hagel said such funding would be necessary to help keep al qaeda from moving "closer to Iran."

Do we deserve to win this war?

It's exactly what I predicted. We'll continue to pay them the money, but we'll find some way to excuse ourselves.

I thought we'd at least make Hamas go through the motions of an apology of some sort, but evidently not.

Biggest line of crap I've ever heard. With a war on terrorism going on, it's unconscionable that we not only give these psychos the time of day, we give them money to continue their terrorism. Charity my ass.

Europe, the USA, and the UN have been doing it for 60 years with no end in sight. Good lord, Hamas has killed over 500 US citizens. It's nice to know the US govt. doesn't give a crap about that!

State once again undermines our country.

We knew it was coming.

Now fire them all.

How does a congressman explain a vote in favor of funding a Hamas-dominated government?

I don't see Congress funding the PA.

I'd cuss in Palestinian if there was such a language as Palestinian. Or Palestinians for that matter. We are giving our tax dollars to murdering cultists from Egypt, Syria, etc......

Congress won't fund the PA, but we will continue to talk to the President, Abbas, to see if this mess can be fixed.

It's no more complex than that.

We are going to continue giving them money even if we have to create fictions and Rice must personally hand out envelopes filled with cash on Gaza street corners.

I seem to remember a President who said something about supporters of terrorists being as guilty as the terrorists.

Here it's not just that the Government supports terrorists, the Government will be terrorists.

What ever happened to that President? Also known as Israel's Best Friend Ever.

When not in full blown Al Harb mode [House of War],
Islam is very much at home with extortion.
Saladin used Islamic extortion imperative on the Crusaders at Jerusalem.
A head tax/vs slavery for those who could not pay.

Methinks the U.S. is paying the slavery head tax today,

To Musaraaf in Pakistan,
Pharaoh Mubarak in Egypt,...etc..etc.

If the U.S. is gonna pay it......sure as heck the Jews are too.

No mystery that Israel pays the Palestinians......and then retreats.

dear congressional representative:
it has come to my attention you are firmly in the enemy camp (aka..in bed w/hamas). I must rethink April 15 this year and determine if I want to continue supporting an organization supporting terrorism. I am too angry to continue this letter at this time, but I'll write more as soon as I calm down.

Sincerely,
a trod upon citizen

Yes, the stupidity and political pandering (are they really different?) just keeps feeding the PALs. Total insanity -- today is really no different than it was 35 years ago, even though Arafat is gone.
