'Baby Jessica,' Now 19, Reportedly Marries

Monday January 30, 2006 3:31 AM

MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - ``Baby Jessica,'' whose dramatic rescue from an abandoned Texas well was televised across the country 18 years ago, got married in a private ceremony, People magazine reported on its Web site.

Crews struggled for 58 hours to rescue Jessica McClure after she fell into an 8-inch-wide pipe in October 1987.

The celebrity magazine reported that McClure, now 19, married Daniel Morales, 32, at a rural church outside Midland on Saturday. A sign on the door instructed guests not to take pictures or video, the magazine said.

The two met at a day-care center where Morales' sister worked with McClure, according to the magazine.

I hope she looked before she lept. It's not good to jump headlong in to these things.

At 25, McClure stands to earn a trust fund reportedly valued in excess of $1 million, made up of contributions from well-wishers around the world.

My mother was 12 years older than my father, and from everything I've been told about them (they passed when I was six, so my memory is scant at best), theirs was a love story for the ages.

Don't let anyone ever get away with prejudging your situation. Here's to the next 13 (26, 39...)!

Congratulations and have a happy life. The beauty of this story has always been somewhat damaged for me by the knowledge that the paramedic who slid down the parallel well to rescue her committed suicide with a shotgun eight years later. Many have tried to claim it was the post-traumatic stress from the rescue, but I have trouble believing that. A good rescue is the affirmation we get that what we're doing in the emergency services is worth it.

The saddest part of this story is that man that brought her out of that well comitted suicide a few years back.

Prayers for him, every time I think of her.

I wonder if she drinks bottled water.

Everyone in Midland drinks bottled water. The sulphur in the tap water masks the flavor of the nasty stuff.

Thirteen years is not really a lot.

She is 19 and he is 32.

That is a lot.

You can't see that?

Well then we must respectfully disagree on some things.

Police officer in 'Baby Jessica' rescue sentenced to prison

MIDLAND, Texas - A former Midland police officer who helped in the 1987 rescue of "Baby Jessica McClure" was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in federal prison on charges of sexual exploitation of a child and improper storage of explosives.

William Andrew Glasscock Jr., 52, pleaded guilty to the charges in February, admitting he used a hidden camera to film a 12-year-old girl undressing and getting in and out of the shower last summer at his home.

He also admitted he stored 400 pounds of high explosives, 1,700 blasting caps, a detonator cord, an artillery shell, two pipe bombs and four homemade hand grenades at his Midland County home.

Thirteen years is not really a lot.

She is 19 and he is 32.

That is a lot.

You can't see that?

Well then we must respectfully disagree on some things.

My father, 18, proposed to my mother, 30, and she accepted. My grandparents would not allow them to marry (this was 1948). A short while later, my mother moved away and told my father to look her up if he was still interested when he was 21.

On his 21st birthday, my mother was in NYC (3 states away) dating a doctor. She received a telegram from my father asking if she would still have him. She dumped the doctor and flew back to my father's arms. Shortly thereafter, they were married.

Three kids later, my father went blind from glaucoma (complications from diabetes). Two more kids (I was her fifth C-section at 43) and she later got breast cancer. They loved each other through 16 years of marriage, 5 kids, two debilitating diseases, and everyone who knew them attested to the amazing nature of their love.

They died 5 months apart in 1967, in love until the end.

You may feel 19 and 32 is wrong, but I know better. It entirely depends on the two people involved, and the ages are entirely irrelevant.
