Conrad To Vote In Favor of Alito

Senator Accepts Judge's Personal Pledge 01/30/06

Washington -- Senator Kent Conrad announced today that he will cast his vote to confirm Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court and issued the following statement.

"I reached this decision after careful consideration. I have reviewed Judge Alito's record and background and have had two extended meetings with him. I have reached this conclusion for the following reasons:

"First, the American Bar Association has given Judge Alito its highest rating on a unanimous vote.

"Second, he has served for the past 15 years on the second highest court in the land, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and he was unanimously confirmed for that position.

"Third, it is clear that both the majority of my constituents and the majority of the American people are in favor of Judge Alito's confirmation.

"Fourth, Judge Alito has testified, under oath, that he brings no ideological agenda to the Court.

"Fifth, Judge Alito looked me in the eye and told me that he will not conduct himself based on an ideological agenda. He promised me that he would judge each case based on its merits and protect and defend the liberties set out in the Constitution.

"And finally, Judge Alito has assured me that the President is bound by the statutes passed by Congress and that he supports the system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution."

Senator Conrad also said he will not support a filibuster of the Supreme Court nominee. A final vote on the confirmation of Judge Alito to the Supreme Court has been scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Senator Conrad has supported 217 of President Bush's judicial nominations, including Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts.

So that is 57. I want to know if Alito will get 60. That leaves the 2 from NJ, Landreiu, Dorgan, Snowe, and Rockefeller. I admit I just want to make a few dollars on this thing. I know Alito is in.

I would be stunned if the far left LOUSE-enberg were to vote yes. What about Bayh, has he declared himself yet? It's getting pretty late. I think some of these people don't ever want to decide.

Here's a RAT wearing PUB title, read this a.m.: "GOP Sen. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island also announced the would vote against Alito's confirmation. Chafee, a self-described 'pro-choice, pro-environment, pro-Bill of Rights Republican,' is the only member of the Republican Party so far to announce that he will vote against the conservative judge."

the American Bar Association has given Judge Alito its highest rating on a unanimous vote.

Shows you how far to the left the moonbat fringe of the Democratic Senate is if the ABA gives him strong support and the extremists don't.

With Evan Bayh it's all about positioning himself for a run for President. I know someone who was a staffer for him in Washington as well as in Indiana. They finally left in disgust because every decision Bayh made was based solely on how it would affect his presidential chances, not on what was best for his constituents. So you can figure Evan is calculating every angle of this and he'll take the position that he thinks will help him the most, politically.

Actually this is a rather interesting situation. Bayh comes from a fairly conservative state and normally I would think he would be inclined to vote for Alito. On the other hand, he would like to be President and he probably figures he needs to appeal to the far left base to get funding and votes in the primaries.

I say he votes for cloture but votes against Alito.

I just love the photos, but they're small and I can't get the face right on the bottom picture -- is it Michael Moron?

He doesnt need 60 votes to be confirmed, he only needs 60 for cloture.. We have well more then 60 for cloture.

57 voteing for him and 7-8 democrats/turn coat republicans that voted against him but will not support a filibuster.

So is Rhode Island, which is why I'm surprised at Chafee's decision.

I know. I am just trying to score some money at tradesports. Contracts are selling at 33 right now. Great buy if Alito gets 60 votes.
