Very moving story. May Cpl Lundstrom be welcomed by his ancestors, and his family be comforted in their grief.
Kudos to the Marines, who look after their own and are a shining example of the best in our nation.

The blending of two culture combined into some incredible images. Thank you Lone Eagle.
Do all of those Garands still get carried around by the WWII vets?

Thank you for posting this. The public only gets a view of the anti war radical Indians most of the time. It was humbling to see these photos.
Our youngest son served as Honor Guard at an Indian funeral in Alaska. He is still moved to this day about how well he was treated. He went to provide comfort not quite knowing what to expect from the family. What happened took him back quite a bit. He was treated like one of the family. He was given a quilt, beautiful moccasins, and other gifts. The gifts were an beautiful tribute but the welcome to mourn with the family was an honor. He wasn't expecting to be honored while going to provide comfort.

Thank you for posting this. I was honored to work for the funeral home company that did the funeral arrangement for Lori Piewasta after the ambush in AlNasariya. We did everything we could to accomodate all Native American traditions, and with the utmost respect.
While many paint pictures of the Native Americans as boozing, drug using, social miscreants who hate the White Americans, I find it is so far from the truth. Many, ie: the majority, still view this country as their home, as their land, and one they are born to defend and protect.
My prayers for the family and friends of the life gone on. It will be lonely and sad, but hopefully reunited in the higher world.

This needed a super-tissue alert. God rest you Cpl. Lundstrom and being that you are now in a far better place, please watch out for America - this I pray to you. And I will pray for the safe return of your brother.
