Hafta say I agree. Most of what I heard was about government programs, need to help the poor, blah, blah. 2 choices today, socialism or socialism-lite.

I say we go ahead for socialism and make this ship capsize. Trying to bail water isn't doing any good anymore when the Republicans backstab conservatives over and over and over and over and over.

According to FR poll the greatest conservative forum on the planet, 51% rate the President State of the Union Address as excellent, 30% rate it as good, and 9% as fair. I do not see "conservative" disappointment here unless the Buchananites, Constitution party, and libertarians are who Robert Novak is talking about, but those guys are an tiny tiny fringe group and they are " ISOLATIONASITS", of course they will not like it.

The minute you walked in the joint
I could see you were a man of distinction, a real big spender
Good looking, so refined
Say, wouldn't you like to know what's going on in my mind?
So let me get right to the point
I don't pop my cork for every man I see
Hey big spender!
Spend a little time with me

Wouldn't you like to have fun, fun, fun?
How's about a few laughs, laughs?
I could show you a good time
Let me show you a good time

The minute you walked in the joint
I could see you were a man of distinction, a real big spender
Good looking, so refined
Say, wouldn't you like to know what's going on in my mind?
So let me get right to the point
I don't pop my cork for every man I see
Hey big spender!
Hey big spender!
Hey big spender!
Spend a little time with me
Yes

Just take a chill pill and you'll get over yourself.

All you have to do is win the presidency and then you can show the world how to give a speech that will live up to your expectations of how somebody ought to please you.

Meanwhile, it doesn't seem to matter if one is a conservative or a liberal -- in coming down with those nasty delusions of grandeur, people working in the old media are afflicted with. Why can't you people learn to appreciate things for what they are -- instead of always trying to distort them into what you think they ought to be. It's a big world buddy. Learn to live with it.

The reason we don't all write you about how you ought to write a column to please us, is that we have more important and enjoyable things to do than to run your life. That's what freedom of expression is all about -- even for presidents.

I wasn't disappointed.
I give the speech a "fair" because it's the same old shit.
In my opinion, President Bush gave a more compelling talk at his discussion on the war on terror, given at Kansas State University.

I'm supportive of his foreign policy, Alito, and assorted other initiatives. I detest his domesntic big government programs, was livid at Miers, and am similarly livid at his pick of Julie Myers for head of ICE and associated foot dragging on enforcement of existing immigration law.

But he's 100 times better than Kerry or Gore.
Criticism delivered as a matter of civic duty.

>>>>>The consensus on the Right was that President Bush's fifth State of the Union Address was his worst.

That's the way I see it. Fair speech at best. A hackneyed effort.

All the Bush cheerleaders enjoyed it, I'm sure. Fred Barnes is so infatuated with GWBush, he's downright giddy these days.

For any conservative in the know about what President Bush talked about, they would rate his speech a home run.

Bob Novak does not look these days as if he has the energy to stay awake long enough to know what was said. He must be writing another book which is taking up most of his concern.

I will continue to have misgivings about Bob Novak because of his part in the Valarie Plame episode.

As expected, Bush backed away from what a year earlier were labeled as the two great initiatives of his second term. He complained that "Congress did not act last year on my proposal to save Social Security," unintentionally setting off self-congratulatory celebration by Democrats on the floor. But Bush made no promises about trying to revive his personal accounts.

It is unconscionable for Novak to blame Bush for inaction on SS when neither rat or Republicans have the onions to fix it. Novak would blame Jesus for sin.

If Novak was worth a crap he would be on Fox. CNN purchases his favors by the hour because he make Conservatives and Republicans look like pompous buffoons. The old/junk media display Novak and he reciprocates with an efforts to tank Dubya with Plame. I will be happy when he is unemployed and can no longer damage the GOP and America.

It is disappointing that Fox has hired the gloom and doom of Bob Novak. He never has a kind or optimistic thing to say for the GOP...no wonder CNN kept him on so long as their "token conservative".

I can't see how any conservative in favor of limited government or secure borders could have been anything but disgusted by that speech last night. He proposed expanding the federal government's role in education, sounded like Gore speaking of increasing money for government research in alternative energy while not saying a thing about ANWR, stated that the federal government should be responsible for paying for health care for the poor and the elderly, and proposed another commission to study the impact of baby boomers on social security. Bill Clinton was more fiscally responsible.

I'm tired of hearing 'conservatives' complain about what Bush says in speeches. Every time they think Bush is about to sell out his conservative principles, Bush takes action that only proves he is a conservative.

Harriet Miers was Laura's pick for the Supreme Court and was a mistake, but Bush listened to conservatives and 'encouraged' her to withdraw. He does listen.

SOTU speeches are lousy times to "get tough", which is why Rove did not suggest it. It just would have set up the '06 election as a war, which is just what the Dems want. Lots of money, energy and turnout are what they need, and they DON'T have it now.

Nonetheless, this will be remembered as a good speech, and one of the best he ever gave in defining his leadership and connecting with the nation. You can already feel the nation turning back toward the President, and rejecting the idiotic static from the MSM and the beltway.
