When I read the title of this piece, I thought of, and looked up Mr. Waldheim.

"In 1986 he was elected president of Austria, despite the scandal caused by the revelation that he had been an officer in a German army unit that committed atrocities in Yugoslavia during World War II; he denied any knowledge of the atrocities.

An international investigation cleared him of complicity, but many felt he must have known more than he revealed. His tenure as president was marked by international isolation, and he did not run in 1992."

And these are the people that didn't want Tookie executed.

Thanks.

Specifically, I believe he was an intelligence officer.

"UN pays former Nazi Waldheim 125G annual pension"

"...the ex-Wehrmacht intelligence officer with an annual pension of $124,754 — which he receives in Vienna and can expect to collect every year until the day he dies, the Daily News has learned."

"(The U.N. General Assembly) voted Waldheim a series of pension-allowance raises — even as evidence surfaced of his alleged role in the mass deportations of Greek and Yugoslav Jews to Nazi death camps, and in the execution of Allied prisoners, in 1942-45."

"Because the U.S. share of the UN's regular budget was 25% until January 2001, when it was reduced to 22%, Washington has shelled out about $555,000 of the total."

Q. What is Waldheimer's Disease?

A. When you forget that you were once a Nazi.

Kurt was the only second lieutenant in any army involved in WWII who was NEVER PROMOTED.

Was that just his "cover", or was he doing something that kept him off the Eastern Front?

The mysteries about the guy are enormous.
