Comic Outrage

This week people have been doing more agonizing than laughing at newspaper cartoons. Not just Muslims, but now America’s military forces – and the rest of us who support our warriors – are disgusted by a cartoon. Specifically the cartoon drawn by Tom Toles and published in the Washington Post making light of an amputee recovering from battle wounds.

Beyond being repulsed by cartoons, the two movements have nothing in common. Here is the statement sent by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to the Washington Post:

We were extremely disappointed to see the Jan. 29 editorial cartoon by Tom Toles.

The liberals will print this disgrace in their beloved fish wraps but not the Muhammad cartoons the Europeans are printing

It's because the people that are offended by this cartoon aren't the types to attack those people willing to publish this tripe. At least, not yet.

It's tasteless, but I don't think it's supposed to be about the wounded soldiers. It's just a juvenile slap at Rumsfield. Who gets all upset over cartoons? Besides fanatics in the Middle East, that it.

This is sick and wrong; they can't spin this any other way.

The difference being that while we critize and even condem this tasteless cartoon, I certainly do at any rate, we don't go running to government demanding that they "Do Something" about it. We know that the other side has a right to freedom of speech and the press too. In fact that right is one of things our military is fighting for, having all taken the oath to support and defend.

The Muzzies OTOH, like the liberals, only recognize their own rights, or what they think are their rights, but not those of those with whom they disagree.

Islam seems to play by different rules, which place Islam above all others.

Just fascists doing what fascists do.

Especially when soldiers fight for the right for American freedom of expression....the right to insult the very men who defend them.

Their ingratitude is so odd. I think that they don't think, are spoiled beyond belief or are just too stupid to live.
Perhaps some qualify for all three.

Islam seems to play by different rules, which place Islam above all others.

It's worse than that, they expect everyone else to play by their rules. The main thing about the cartoons that offends them is that they portray and actual image of Mohamed. Now their religious law says that no such image should be portrayed, because it could lead to idolatry. Early in the Protestant reformation, most Protestent denominations felt likewise. In fact one anti Roman Catholic curse was "Idolater!".

The Islamists, even the so called moderate ones, tip their hand when they expect non Muslims to go by their rules, which were intended only for those who have "submitted" to their version of Allah. (Islam means the peace of submission).

As disgusting as this cartoon is, you should see what was printed during the Civil War.

My letter:

"All of you at the Washington Post who abide this cartoon disgust me.

"Toles is a sick and cruel bastard who has stabbed every American soldier in the heart.

"You are beneath contempt, and I wish you all the worst.

"I am ashamed that you are technically Americans, by an unfortunate accident of birth.

"With seething anger,

"Signed, My Name

"My City"

Fellow FReepers:

This is a letter sent to the Compost from my passwordless Freeper office bud:

Whether or not you agree with our country's ongoing liberation of the oppressed in Afghanistan and Iraq, Tole's cartoon printed on January 29th hits a new low, even for the Post. I find it supremely ironic that Tole enjoys the freedom to create such insulting works at the very expense of those who are sacrificing their life and limbs to preserve our American way of life by fighting terrorism in their backyards instead of ours.

A public apology for the creation and publishing of this offensive cartoon is in order. We're waiting.

A fine letter!

Nothing new really.

The newspapers in my area have been printing this sort of garbage for as long as I can recall.
