Some things I know about the Jomon - Ainu:

* The Ainu are tall, light-skinned and hairy people who are erroneously called 'Caucasian.'

* 9,300 Year Old Kennewick Man Is believed to be Ainu.

* The Oldest Jomon Skeleton Ever Found In Japan is 13,000 years old.

* The Ainu are believed to be descended from the Jomon.

* The Jomon were noted for their 'cord-marked' type pottery. Archaeologists believe they have found this type pottery in the Olmec ruins in Mexico.

* The oldest (undisputed) Mongoloid skeleton ever found is only 10,000 years old. My present opinion is that both the Mongoloids and Caucasians sprang from an early Jomon line.

I'd like to hear your thoughts and ideas on this subject. I will post other related articles and pictures as we proceed.

The Samurai And The Ainu

* Anthropologist C. Loring Brace believe the Ainu were the early nobility and Samurai.

* Anthropologist Marvin Harris believes the Japanese custom of 'white-face' was an emulation of these early noblemen.

Some Japanese are clearly different from most Orientals.

I used to work with a guy whose last name was Ishi. I always thought he was from Eastern Europe. He definitely looked different from Scotch-Irish, or English but still could have passed for European.

One day he told me he was Japanese. I asked if he were part American and no, he was full blooded. He had an American first name so wasn't first generation.

After he told me, he did look Japanese but still it is surprising that I didn't recognize it.

Marvin Harris is Marxist, but maybe he's right about this one.

What's the linguistic relationship of Japanese to other languages? Seems I remember reading that it's believed to be related distantly to Turkic languages.

"I thought they were caucasian?"

Nope. They have some Caucasian 'type' features but no-one in science calls them Caucasian.

If you ain't the biggest Ainu fan here no one is :)

Yes the Ainu are blue eyed white guys (Orientals?) who inhabit the northern islands of Japan. Were a tribal people. Have you ever wondered why Siberian Huskies have blue eyes? Same as Nordic people tend to?

Maybe during the Last Glacial Maximum(LGM), 18-23,000 years ago. There is one skeleton found near Lake Baikal that some argue is Mongoloid (21,000 YO), but, most disagree.

DNA tests show that the Northern Mongoloids (peculiar eye cover, flat-face, lighter skinned) descended from the Southern Mongoloid. The Southern Mongoloids do not have some of the traits of the Northern Mongoloids, they seem to be cold adapted.

9,400 year old Spirit Cave Man is the oldest mummy ever found in the Americas. My guess is that he's Ainu like Kennewick Man.

I read a lot and I've never read that the Ainu had blue-eyes.

Maybe we could find out from Spirit Cave Man if the Indians didn't object to studying him.

"9,400 year old Spirit Cave Man is the oldest mummy ever found in the Americas."
found at Fallon, Nevada.

As a westerner, I always amaze with those (easterners, foreigners) who claim we have no history out here.

The Indians of southern California are said to be the largest group in what became the US. LA basin coastal are is one group. Colorado River near Needles is another.

Next Spanish, English and Portugese explorers, and Spanish missionaries.

Later mountain men at the fringe of their travels.
