Repeatedly, political analysts have remarked about how the recent election of John Boehner of Ohio, to House Leadership, will enable him to steer projects and funding towards the Buckeye state. Since I have bitten clean through my pen, I am forced to type, instead.
From Columbus, Mr. Boehner, we exhort you as one of our representatives.
You serve as a Republican; you enjoy the designation of conservative.
Ignore those television and radio experts who urge you on to new heights of pork. We sent you to Washington to put an end to the pig trough mentality of shoveling huge spoils of dollars towards whatever states have the most highly placed representatives.
We did not send you to Washington, to apply lip service those words… while at the same time preparing to “shovel some our way…”.
Conservatives ask only that the Congress regain some measure of the duty to do what is good for ALL of the States. If we only wanted our cut, we would be voting Democrat. How well are the Republicans showing the stark difference? How do they justify all that they have spent since we handed the House and Senate to them?
We realize that there is a war going on, and that if we lose it, then a national debt will be the least of our worries. But we don’t appreciate the idea that the war may be used as cover for every representative to grab working families’ money to provide re-election inducing goodies to each incumbent’s voters.
Mr. Boehner… the next try is you. I don’t know how the other states look at things, but many, if not most of your constituents here don’t WANT more Federal pork, whether it’s flowing towards us or somewhere else.
It doesn’t fall to citizens of other states to grab your collar and straighten you out. It is OUR duty since we send you back each term.
OHIO is hereby declared a pork-free zone. We’ll trust the other States to now follow.
We’ll just settle for free enterprise, thank you very much. We’ll settle for national defense, and forego the hors’ d’oerves.
Signed, Disgruntled grunter.
Who was the guy who said that if his constituents expected him to loot the treasury on their behalf, they were going to be disappointed? That's who the Republicans need in the leadership.
LOL!
Good luck with THAT!
Boehner is one of the few that doesn't do earmarks/markups or whatever the last minute pork is called.
Thjis article is off the mark.
