His country misses him.

Greatest President of my lifetime, bar none.

From IMDB:

Ronald Reagan

Date of birth (location) 6 February 1911 Tampico, Illinois, USA

In a point of interest, IMDB has someone named Jim Sheridan on their front page area for birthdays.

Figures.

I'd feel a lot better knowing he was on the job today:

John Lewis Gaddis has a new book out on the Cold War. He appeared at some event last Wednesday and it was rebroadcast on C-SPAN yesterday and earlier this morning. He had a lot of interesting points to make and spoke very respectfully of Ronald Reagan...called him a remarkable thinker and a grand strategist on the order of George F. Kennan or Henry Kissinger...the chief thinker in the Reagan Administration was Reagan himself.

Gaddis also agreed with the characterization of the late pope as "John Paul the Great" and quoted Stalin's line about "how many divisions does the pope have?"--the answer was that he didn't need any.
