LIVE THREAD: SJC hearing on the NSA surveilance program - C-span 1; 9:30 am EST

Posted on 02/06/2006 6:08:53 AM PST by ken5050

Good Monday morning, once again, fellow political jinkies. The NFL season may be over, but the political season inside the Beltway is 24/7/365. So join us, if you can, as those wacky Dems on the Senate Judiciary committee reprise their pitiful efforts to once again smear President Bush and score political points..

Another fine American sent me these quotes!!

However, because of the President's constitutional duty to act for the United States in the field of foreign relations, and his inherent power to protect national security in the context of foreign affairs, we reaffirm what we held in United States v. Clay, supra, that the President may constitutionally authorize warrantless wiretaps for the purpose of gathering foreign intelligence."--United States v. Brown, 484 F.2d 418, 426 (1973)

"We agree with the district court that the Executive Branch need not always obtain a warrant for foreign intelligence surveillance."--U.S. v. Truong Dinh Hung, 629 F.2d 908, 913 (1980)

"Prior to the enactment of FISA, virtually every court that had addressed the issue had concluded that the President had the inherent power to conduct warrantless electronic surveillance to collect foreign intelligence information, and that such surveillances constituted an exception to the warrant requirement of the Fourth Amendment."--United States v. Duggan, 743 F.2d 59 (1984)

"The Truong court, as did all the other courts to have decided the issue, held that the President did have inherent [constitutional] authority to conduct warrantless searches to obtain foreign intelligence information."--In re Sealed Case, 310, F3d. 717, 742 (2002)

And since you mentioned the Prize cases, let me add this "bonus" quote!

"If a war be made by invasion of a foreign nation, the President is not only authorized but bound to resist force by force. He does not initiate the war, but is bound to accept the challenge without waiting for any special legislative authority." --The Amy Warwick (The "Prize Cases"), 67, U.S. 635, 668 (1862)

That information just sent a shiver down my spine. I don't think I've read anything else that provides better insight into what is going on here.

There is this also that goes back much further....Author is David horowitz:

******************************************

Unholy Alliance : Radical Islam and the American Left

And a very good review:

*********************************

Vastly Illuminating, September 25, 2004

Reviewer: Kat Bakhu (Albuquerque, NM United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I had long wondered why people on the Left had the propensity to speak more positively about people who would slit their throats than they do about their own country, which affords them more freedom and opportunity than anywhere else. David Horowitz has answered that question thoroughly and convincingly in his Unholy Alliance. Where I felt bewildered and confused, I now feel crystal clear. Unholy Alliance is such a great book.

It begins with the leftist movements at the beginning of the 20th Century, and works its way up to the present day, exploring the anti-American attitude of these movements in detail. Horowitz shows that the enemies of the US back then are largely the same group today, operating under the same misperceptions, making the same mistakes, and pursuing the same impossible utopia.

Individual chapters are included on the Patriot Act (I was persuaded that it is a GOOD thing); the democratic flip-flop on Iraq once G.W. Bush implemented what they agreed with Clinton needed to be done; the driving components of the current anti-war movement; as well as chapters on individual personalities who are major spokespeople of the Left. Horowitz covers a lot of ground, and he covers it concisely and clearly. Unholy Alliance is richly informative without ever being boring or plodding.

This book is so illuminating that I simply cannot do justice to it here. I love people who reason so clearly that they help me get my own reasoning clear. Horowitz is just that type of person! In the terrain of mindless clichés (no-blood-for-oil, etc.), he is a breath of real fresh air.

Open Society Institute (Soros) also helped to train journalists in Iraq after the fall of Sadaam and many of them have gone on to write anti-american crap for pro insurgent papers in Iraq. These people are a real cancer on this country.

Yes, Morton's son Mark is Political Director at ABC. And Vince Cannistraro, one of the key anti-Bush propagandists, has been an ABC intelligence consultant and has been quoted in ABC segments on the Niger forgeries. And Joseph Wilson and Carl Levin appeared together with France's ambassador on ABC's Nightline on March 4, 2003, right after Levin got back from a fact-finding tour of the Middle East related to Levin's interest in the Niger forgery investigation. . .I don't know if Halperin is the mastermind per se or someone's front man, but he and his friend Anthony Lake are near the heart of the beast IMO.

I am beyond angry after watching these hearings all day. The democratic party is not only deluded, they are dangerous for this country.

Halperin used to work at WBAP Radio, here in Dallas...before he moved to New York...

Remember, he is the one that wrote that infamous e-mail, right before the debates..telling their people to "talk up" Kerry..I believe.

Why couldn't they have expressed their concerns during the briefings? Why couldn't they have asked for their own legal analysis? It would seem to me that they had multiple options that didn't potentially compromise an effective program or the security of the country.

Amazing that I hadn't heard of him....but, knowing what his son did...it makes sense now...why he did it.

THIS is really something for us to keep track of and research more, don't you think?
