Australia has had a conservative government for over nine years at this point - a coalition between the Liberal Party (which is a conservative party, despite its name) and the National Party, headed by Prime Minister John Howard.
If we could only do that.
Thanks for that!
Thank you Australia for setting the pace. Now let's see if America can do the same.
Couldn't agree more....
and BTW, payback from the airlines for getting bailed out on our tax dollars....a one way free ticket back to the ME for all those who don't like way we live here in the USA!
You're absolutely correct George, freedom is never free, and it is pay for by all those who have laid down their lives to protect it. It comes at a high price. This is why I respect our military personnel so much.
I know what their service means to me and everyone else who proudly calls themselves Americans. The world understands what that means too, and it is the reason why others hate us so much.
Speak it plain and speak it proud. You darn Aussie allies make us proud.
Darn proud to be part of the Anglo Western civilization group for self-preservation.
This should be repeated each and every single time one of these barbaric muzzies starts flapping his mouth.
Go back to your failed society and do as you please. Here it's our laws, not your primitive Sharia oppression.
(Self-censored now due to rising anger.)
In Australia, guns really aren't a political issue in the same way they are in the United States - we have a different history. Supporting the right to own firearms really isn't a conservative issue here. In fact, most dedicated shooters I know, are socialists because it's seen very much as a working class past time.
Having said that... Australia's laws on guns aren't as good as those of most of the United States, but are nowhere near as bad as those of the United Kingdom. You have to be licenced, and firearms have to be registered, but basically an Australian citizen, as long as he doesn't have a criminal record, can get a basic firearms licence very easily, and higher level licences (required to own handguns, semi-automatics, etc) without too much difficulty. It starts to get complicated if you want automatic weapons, but even that can be done.
With a population of around 20 million, there are probably somewhere around 5 million legally held firearms in private hands in Australia, so we're nowhere near disarmed.
For various reasons, Australia's gun laws have been misrepresented overseas. It really isn't that bad, though it certainly could be better.
Maybe you have forgotten the mass exodus after 9/11 when AG Ashcroft said he wanted to interview 10,000 Arab men. They ran for the exits big time, and then they shut the doors, No visas. By the way, we could probably scare a lot of Mexicans into hitting the road, too.
Good Article.
Australian Federal Treasurer Peter Costello made very similar remarks over the last year. In one recent TV appearance he made a comment along the lines of "Those muslims who want to live in a Sharia Law society and country, will be better off moving to one of those countries rather than trying to change Australia. Australia is a secular country with its own laws and value. That will not change."
I fully agree with his comments. We don't see these radical muslims in any hurry to move to say Saudi Arabia, do we?
Either they assimilate/integrate or they are more than welcome to leave Australia. Nobody is going to stop them.
Nope, won't happen here even after they nuke an American city. Wouldn't be nice.
We live in very interesting times.
Hooray for the Australians.
And it's a little hard to take over the world when kicked out of most of the countries.
Good on ya!!!
'bout damn time some country said enuf is enuf.
Hats off to the Queen of Denmark, as well
you will see a MASS EXODUS of clear-thinking Americans to Australia in the coming years. Political correctness and liberalism will (sad to say ) be America's downfall.
Sounds perfectly logical to me.
Nice going, Aussie! Ping!
"...if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you..."
Wouldn't it be nice if we could hear those words - substituting USA for Australia - from one of our elected pols?
Ping!
