"I don't know what you think you can contribute here to "further conservatism, expose political corruption, and recover a truly constitutional form of government" if you are a socialist (ie., "hate capitalism")."
Actually, I wouldn't call an anti-capitalist a socialist, I'd call them a communist. And I have to admit, I've never seen a pro 2nd amendment communist before. This guy seems very confused.

And as I said before, the fact that you are a conservative site, not a official or unofficial Republican Party site is probably due to this. You might have noticed in your political travels that the liberals of the world who express the desire for freedom of the press are the very same people who scream you down and tune you out; they are same folks who promote legistation banning the very discussions that "might" expose them for the power hungry, anti-freedom loving people they "demand" to represent. Just look at socialism and communism and you will see in our very own Democrat Party in the USA the same anti-free speech crowd you have in Russia, China, the Arab Middle East and that place that perfected anti-free speech the EU.
Welcome to FR!

Regarding your comments about "more conservative than they ever imagined", I do find the greyness you find around interesting, as opposed to the black and white of the theoretical chalkboard conservative/Republican and progressive/Democratic differences. I was watching TV not long ago and Buchanan said we need to lower H1-B visas. I stood up and started clapping, I didn't even know any talking head cared about that. I saw Tancredo talk about that later.
Honestly, I am surrounded by conservatives. I live in a very "red" bastion of a very blue wider area. American flags everywhere, church goers, Support our troops stickers on cars. The alpha and omega of me being on the left are my economic beliefs.
Anyhow, I could go off on a bunch of tangents from the whole gray area thing.

That will do it. Clinton and Mondale couldn't hold a candle to the stupidity that was Dukakis.

Oh, one more thing: I hate the word "progressive" in this context, because it's a baldfaced, 100% lie. I'd have to be As Dumb As A democRat to fall for such a stupid BS label applied to the usual government-loving, nanny-state, control-freak, parasitic, communist, mooching greedhead who wants to steal my earnings and my freedom.
"Progressives" suck. They just do. Always and everywhere.

[I am a complete supporter of the Second Amendment.]
Not wanting to nitpick, but I'm a supporter of the other nine amendments in the Bill of Rights, including the less popular ones like #9 and #10. The rest of the Constitution is pretty well written, too and you'll find that nearly everyone here at FR wants that document followed "strictly" and not reinvented at the whim of the day.
You can politely disagree with quite a few things around here socially, economically, religiously and militarily and still be accepted but the importance of following The Constitution is not one of them.
Welcome to Free Republic.

Why would I be zotted? This is not my board, but if I am zotted, I hope there would be at least an explanation of why. You haven't been zotted yet,we welcome intelligent discourse, stick around, you may learn something.

Have you seriously studied different political philosophies, their pros and cons, with an open mind and with an eye toward learning before you decided to become a "progressive"? By study, I don't mean reading books by Al Franken or Bill O'Reilly. How old are you? Under or over 30?

So what do you think about this one?
To: ClassConscious
So you hate capitalism ? A group of management methods/tools for asset management that are separate & different from ideology. A ideology is a people/society/culture control system such as Republicanism aka Parliamentary Democracy(what is the predominant form of govt in the western world) socialism, fascism, marxism etc . One can have a political system that is totalitarian in nature yet still capitalist despite what those on the left claim . An excellent example of this is China it is a communist dictatorship that is also capitalist in deeds & in a round about fashion words as well.

Cut him some slack. Heck, cut him a
lot of slack; this thread is fascinating.
Some (ick) "progressives" have a small particle of brain lodged in their skulls, and are capable of learning. We owe it to them, and ourselves, to explore the potential here.
