From your perspective (you have obviously studied this more than I), what do you think would result if Mecca or Medina or both were incinerated?

I believe the reason we haven't been hit is because Freepers and other Internet folks posted pictures of Mecca being nuked.

Yeah, I know that sounds like a big freeper ego trip - but it's my best guess. In the ME political gossip is always more accurate than the offical press. Information passes through family members - brother to brother, brother to father - father to brothers, uncles to sons, son's to wives, wives to sisters, sisters to husbands, husbands to brothers, to fathers etc. It's all done by family because the wrong information in the wrong hands causes death. I believe there's a good chance that the Arab world believed the pictures more than the official pronouncement of our government. I'm sure the Arab Street did... And if we did bomb those sites? I'm not sure. I'll have to think about it. My first instinct is that it's a better threat than a reality. I'll get back to you.

Bad argument. The Mullahs aren't running at us with nukes. It's a subtle game, so "shoot first ask questions later" is not an obvious policy, as it is in the school-bomber example.

What if someone had taken out Adolph Hitler in 1936? Don't you think things might have turned out better?
