Just wanted to let my FReeper FRiends know that my darling husband is finally home from Afghanistan! We weren't expecting him until Wednesday or Thursday, but Monday night the phone rang.
"Do you think you could pick me up at the airport at 10:30?"
"10:30 when?"
"Uh, tonight?"
"Tonight??? I'll be there as soon as I can." I think we burned rubber backing out of the driveway.
Meanwhile, it was a dark and stormy night in Atlanta. The flight was repeatedly delayed. That's all the monitor said: Delayed. We passed the time pacing nervously back and forth in front of the revolving-door exit. (They don't let you go meet the planes any more. Only ticketed passengers are allowed into the terminal.) And so we waited.
A couple of passengers came through the revolving doors. "Is this the plane from Atlanta?" I asked one lady. "Charlotte," she replied. I looked at the monitor. The Charlotte flight was due in at 11:30. Was it that late already?
Atlanta flight: Delayed, still. Bad weather, someone said. And so we waited. It was nearly midnight.
Suddenly, without warning, a group of weary-looking travelers made their way through the exit. "Is this the plane from Atlanta?" I asked one man. "Yeah, Atlanta," he said.
I called the boys, who had been huddled around the lone vending machine trying to decide on a snack. "Dad's here! Come on, hurry!" I fumbled to get the camera ready, and we tried to peer past the metal gate blocking our view. And then, there he was.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Scott is home, safe and sound. We appreciate all of the prayers, support and words of encouragement while he was deployed. Freedom is such a noble cause, and I couldn't be more proud to support his mission on behalf of this great nation.
Feel free to join me in welcoming home my soldier from his tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Welcome home!
Thank you for keeping me and mine safe here at home!
God bless you eternally!

Thanks! I think so, too.
Thank you so very much.
Thank you for posting the best story of the day here. Your hubby's and family's sacrifice during this rough time is not forgotten...bless you Shezza and have a great time!
Thanks, RED. Appreciate the hugs.
I will definitely tell him. And thanks for your kind words.
How Great God bless and good luck!
Roger that. And thanks to you for dropping by.
I'm glad he's home. As a military wife, I know the joy, especially the joy of an early return. God keep y'all!
Thanks, SFC. It's always good news when they come back in one piece, eh what?
Alive and in one piece especially is nice I imagine!
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'll make sure he sees your message tomorrow (he's kind of zonked out at the moment. Jetlag, you know.)
:-D
Sweet! Thanks, Kathy, and I appreciate all of your support over these long months.
{{big hug}} Thank you!
Tears of joy for you, your husband and your family!!!!!!! I know the feeling, and it is a moment to cherish forever and always. Your husband is a HERO! :)
Thank you so much for your kind words. The homecoming of a soldier makes all the other distractions of the day seem petty by comparison. Well, for me they do. ;o)
Welcome.
No problem, got the heads up and wandered on over.
Great pics.
Funny story: when he came back from Iraq in 2003 he had lost 35 pounds, been deeply tanned by the hot desert sun, and was wearing mirrored sunglasses. I didn't even recognize him, and couldn't find him in the sea of DCUs. Finally someone said, "Um, isn't that your husband over there?" He was standing about 20 feet from us as I was scanning the crowd behind him. (sheepish grin)
This time there was no mistaking him. The boys hit him before he could make it through the revolving door. :o)
Welcome home Scott, and thank you for your service to our country!
