Just wanted to let my FReeper FRiends know that my darling husband is finally home from Afghanistan! We weren't expecting him until Wednesday or Thursday, but Monday night the phone rang.
"Do you think you could pick me up at the airport at 10:30?"
"10:30 when?"
"Uh, tonight?"
"Tonight??? I'll be there as soon as I can." I think we burned rubber backing out of the driveway.
Meanwhile, it was a dark and stormy night in Atlanta. The flight was repeatedly delayed. That's all the monitor said: Delayed. We passed the time pacing nervously back and forth in front of the revolving-door exit. (They don't let you go meet the planes any more. Only ticketed passengers are allowed into the terminal.) And so we waited.
A couple of passengers came through the revolving doors. "Is this the plane from Atlanta?" I asked one lady. "Charlotte," she replied. I looked at the monitor. The Charlotte flight was due in at 11:30. Was it that late already?
Atlanta flight: Delayed, still. Bad weather, someone said. And so we waited. It was nearly midnight.
Suddenly, without warning, a group of weary-looking travelers made their way through the exit. "Is this the plane from Atlanta?" I asked one man. "Yeah, Atlanta," he said.
I called the boys, who had been huddled around the lone vending machine trying to decide on a snack. "Dad's here! Come on, hurry!" I fumbled to get the camera ready, and we tried to peer past the metal gate blocking our view. And then, there he was.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that Scott is home, safe and sound. We appreciate all of the prayers, support and words of encouragement while he was deployed. Freedom is such a noble cause, and I couldn't be more proud to support his mission on behalf of this great nation.
Feel free to join me in welcoming home my soldier from his tour of duty in Afghanistan.
A finer re-union can't be had than the welcoming home of a brave soldier.
What a nice surprise!
Thanks for sharing and Thank You Very Much to your husband!
Ahhhh, thanks a lot. We're so happy you are all reunited once again. How wonderful. I think I would have bought a ticket just to be able to go meet the plane at the gate. :) God bless and be happy! Thanks to your Scott from all of us for his service to our country. We appreciate his keeping us free. All we could do was pray for our troops of which he was one. Have a wonderful life together. Your boys can be proud of their dad, themselves and.....their mom! A beautiful ending to a story. Once again thanks and...Welcome Home Scott!!!
Thanks be to God.
And tell your husband, thank you!
Mrs VS
Hey, Tx...my understanding is that many women are still afraid. Afraid that the Americans will leave, the Taliban who are lurking in the shadows will resume power, and they'll be punished for disobeying the extremist laws. They're glad we're there, but they still don't trust that we're not just going to pull out and leave them at the mercy of the Islamofascists once more. Sad, isn't it? I'm so thankful to have been born an American.
Yea!!!! I'm so glad he's home safe. Tell him thank you for me and thank you for supporting him.
Wonderful pictures, wonderful story, bless you all and thank your wonderful husband for his service.
WOO-HOOO! Give him an extra FReeper hug from my Sons he's defending, please.
Thank you for the answer....well, bless their hearts...I guess I don't blame them..
I am still haunted by the videos of them kneeling at the 50 yd line at a soccer field and being executed.
I just pray that what your husband and the other troops have done and will continue to do, will make it so at least their daughters may never have to wear those hideous things...
Again..thank you.
Thank you shezza's soldier, God Bless you and happy you are home safe.
Thank you shezza for sharing your wonderful news.
