Sorry about this, I've never asked before because I honestly don't like to waste the space on the page. Nor do I know where to post it.

You can't put pictures directly from your computer to Free Republic. First you need to put them on a special computer called a server first. This process is called FTP (File Transfer Protocol). Then you need to learn the html command to post the pictures from your server to free republic.

Still want to do it?

First you have to upload the pictures to a host site. There are many available for free (try tripod's site.) Then you post your reply here and to include the picure in question you use html code: e.g., < img src="mypicture.jpg" > which includes the url for the picture within the quotes and brackets, as I have above--except that you do not put an extra space (as I have) between the brackets and the text.

Go to an image hosting web site, such as ImageHosting.us. You browse your computer for the picture you want to upload, then click upload. You'll get a URL for the image (something like http://www.imagehosting.us/yourpic.gif, for example).

If you want the image to show up directly in the post, the HTML code to put in your post is < img src="http://www.com/yourpic.gif" > without the spaces next to the brackets, and with the URL of your image between the quotes. To post a link to a picture, it's < a href="http://www.com/yourpic.gif" > Any descriptive text you want < /a > again without the spaces between the brackets.

I use www.imageshack.us to upload my images and then bookmark the imageshack link on my personal computer.

The sandbox is very helpful.

although, I think when you want to insert an image, you have to use the html stuff throughout your post.

good luck, it isn't difficult

Whatchoogotodo, to post pictures, is sign up for a free image hosting account, PHOTOBUCKET comes to mind. If you host your images there, all you have to do is swipe and past the "tag" URL, to here.
It isn't a big deal, there are a lot of folks around here to help you.
There isn't, from my perspective, any "wasted" space, so long as we are hanging close together.
If I can help you, give a shout, via Freepmail!

One solution:

1. Go to photobucket.com and sign up.
2. Once signed up, log into to it. There will be a menu allowing you to upload picture files.
3. Once uploaded, they will come with the (basic) tag that, in your profile (or an FR posting) allows them to be displayed.

Here is an example of my photobucket page (before I uploaded the image you see):

Image hosting by Photobucket

The rabbit picture tag looks like:

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c236/sionnsar/bunny.jpg" border="0" alt="Image hosting by Photobucket"></a>

Put that in your posting or profile page, and see the picture.

We all had to ask the first time. I post mine on Photobucket, which is free. Then you just transfer the link to the photo into your text.

I use photobucket and it works fine.

Just remember if you are on dial up it will take time to upload your pictures so be patient and only do one at a time.

I've been using my ISP to host images. It's not the fastest. But since Comcast provides the service as part of membership, I like to take advantage of it. This leaves free websites open to those who don't have ISPs that provide that service.

This requires a program, I use Filezilla. Your ISP should provide the basic info you will need to allow you to upload your images. I can provide more specific info if you request it.

Since everone is posting images I made this ani-gif a while ago for another website. I don't know of the guy is a DUmmie, but he sure is an idiot.
