If you say it out loud, it sounds like "Dos Equis," the favorite beer of Tanya Tucker

I thought that the F1 car burning rubber and doing donuts was the best part. I could have done without the flag bearers (other than Sophia Loren), and especially Yoko. I even said "Oh, no!" when she came on. I just realized that they should have had Bono sing "Imagine". And why didn't they use Italian music during the Parade of Nations? American music was more out of place than the Rolling Stones at the Super Bowl in Motown. My mother was looking forward to Pavaroti, and they had to save him for last. She probably went to sleep hours ago and missed him. Of course, my father doesn't care much for "Bluto". He probably found a John Wayne movie to watch.

That's a good point. Most of the time, Art is interpretation.

I agree. I expected to Italian performers, such as Eros Ramonzotti or Laura Pausini (even though both primarily perform in Spanish nowadays). One of the things I enjoyed about the Athens games was the chance to hear the Greek singers. I can hear American music anytime. I want to get the local flavor during the Olympics.

Actually, my absolute favorite John Lennon solo album is "Rock and Roll." I really loved his version of "Stand By Me."

"When John wrote the song it fit the times. Now it seems to be only a way to get Yoko on camera.I liked the song when I was a kid but I have grown up & see things a bit differently now.I Liked his last album."

Boy, I seem to recall that he once admitted in an interview that he though the song was trite and while he understood why it appealed to idealistic humanists living in their heads, he didn't feel it was a song with anything meaningful to say about the world we live in. Or maybe I dreamt that.

If Lennon said that, it makes perfect sense to me. People were and are always ascribing motives and meanings to his stuff that weren't always there. As I recall, some of it even he considered "nonsense."

That's exactly what John said. In fact, he stated he would never do another benefit concert because it was all BS. It would have been interesting to see how John would have reacted to the Reagan Presidency. Perhaps that is what Yoko feared, that she was going to lose her gravy train.

American music is very, very common in Italy.

I think John was John said and did what he wanted. He tried to live his life like a regular guy not the Giant star that he was.You are right that he maybe was coming around but to late.
