After Cheney's Shooting Incident, Time to Unload (Cheney and WH Taking it)
Washington Post ^ | Feb 14, 20006 | Mark Leibovich

The most heated public moment occurred during McClellan's off-camera "gaggle" with White House reporters yesterday morning. It featured NBC's David Gregory, one of McClellan's most persistent inquisitors over the last year, who raised his voice while asking a question about the incident.

"Hold on," McClellan interrupted, pointing out that "the cameras aren't on right now. You can do this later."

"Don't accuse me of trying to pose to the cameras," Gregory replied. "Don't be a jerk to me personally when I'm asking you a serious question."

"You don't have to yell," McClellan said.

"I will yell," said Gregory, jabbing his finger in McClellan's direction. "If you want to use that podium to try to take shots at me personally, which I don't appreciate, then I will raise my voice, because that's wrong."

"Calm down, Dave. Calm down," said McClellan evenly.

The two men spoke privately after the gaggle, Gregory said later. No apologies were exchanged.

McClellan should have had him removed.

Better yet, from an old SNL skit: "Bailiff, whack his pee-pee!"

Just ignore this little pissant.

Act like he isn't even in the room.

He's not worth acknowledging.

This is not an endorsement of violence, but if that little wus (Gregory) spoke to me in that tone, he would be sorting his teeth in the palm of his hand. It's a calculated risk I would enjoy taking.

I think NBC has found the new Dan Rather, but can he forge documents?

Gregory has earned a reputation for being one of the toughest questioners of President Bush and his press secretary Scott McClellan.  Naming him one of Washington's 50 best and most influential journalists, Washingtonian magazine labeled Gregory the "firebrand in the front row."

The VP and this administration owe the media (the WH press corps in particular) ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Does anyone honestly think that if the WH were to shut down the press conference room, convert it to office space, and kick the media off the grounds that the MSM coverage could possibly be even more inaccurate, slanted, and confrotational? Screw them. Have the press office post a daily release on the WH website. If the media want a story, let 'em sniff it out themselves. I'll end up taking it with many grains of salt anyway, given the source.

If Gregory wants to get the scoop on shotgun accidents, why not invite him on Cheney's next Quayle hunt. Tell him to stand about 30 yards behind the VP and flap his arms like a bird.

You need to realize that since Ari Fleischer left that you are not dealing with the varsity in the White House press office or Communications Office.

Last year the amateurs let this same gaggle of immature media children, led by head whiner David Blow-dry Gregory, make a National Guard non-story into one that almost lost the election. A big reason that the Iraq war is losing popular support is that the White House spokesmen have done a terrible job in advancing the cause, letting the clowns in the press zoo carry the story line and define the agenda.

Maybe they are just trying to be nice so that they can get a big media job after their White House days.

Sometimes you have to forget about loyalty and remove the incompetents. Can you imagine a Lee Atwater putting up with this stuff?

With all the late night joke fodder, here is a Top Ten List you WON'T see on Letterman:

Top Ten Reasons It is Still Safer to Go Hunting with Dick Cheney than to Ride in a Car with Ted Kennedy

10. The Vice President doesn't need to sober up before calling for help.
9. The Vice President travels with a medical team rather than a scandal sanitation squad.
8. Vice President Cheney does not have delusional Presidential aspirations to cloud his judgment in a crisis.
7. Hunting with the VP doesn't involve navigating any dangerous bridges.
6. As the victim of an accident involving a Republican, your name will actually be reported on CNN and CBS news.
5. Cheney - Number 8 Bird Shot; Kennedy - 8 shots of Wild Turkey.
4. You don't have to wait for Cheney to concoct an alibi before help arrives.
3. If there is an accident, Cheney will attempt to save your life rather than his political career.
2. You will be able to tell your children and grandchildren about hunting with the Vice Presdient years later.

And the Number ONE reason It is Still Safer to Go Hunting with Dick Cheney than to Ride in a Car with Ted Kennedy:
1. If Vice President Cheney makes a statement regarding Gun Safety, reporters will actually be able to ask you for a comment.
