Brit Hume's Special Report with Robert Novak

Posted on 02/14/2006 6:59:32 AM PST by jubail

Monday's edition of Brit Hume's Special Report, the best political show on television, had Bob Novak sitting in the first panelist chair normally occupied by a conservative. He continued spewing his Bush bashing venom from his days at CNN. I never thought I would send Brit a negative email but I did this morning. Is he trying to drive away viewers?

Novk represents the sleasly underbelly of DC. He is essentially a political gossip columist.

Novak is "old school" Republican. Not Pat Buchanan-like, but more GHW Bush or Gerald Ford-like.

It was painful to watch yesterday. Hopefully it was a one time thing.

I think Novak is washed up as well... but I'd love to see Krauthammer take him to the woodshed a time or two.

I view Novak's appearance much differently. I didn't think he bashed Bush, only giving his opinion. Hey, this White House is simply terrible when it comes to communications and dealing with the press. Novak was simply pointing it out!

Freddie The Beadle's shtick was getting old, but Novak was no breath of fresh air.

I like Bill Sammon.

What specifically did you disagree with? BE SPECIFIC.

The only thing that bothers me about Novak is that when he talks I expect food to come spittering out. Must be some sort of impediment.

I like Novak too. Not every Republican has to sing the same tune. Novak is the kind of Republican who wants smaller gov't, fiscal conservatism and personal accountability. Sometimes that doesn't mesh with the Bush administration's actions. Novak calls them out on it, and of course, that's the only time he's taken seriously by the rest of the MSM -- when he's talking against the administration.

Was he bashing Bush, or simply stating the real problems he has? Mos people on this board seem totally unable to tell the difference. So they write stupid vanities like this one.

Krauthammer is great. I love that show (I tivo every day so I can watch later), with or without Novak. I even like resident liberal Maura Liasson (sp?)...great show.

Novak is bloated. He was fired in part for storming off the set of one of their talk shows when challenged. He's been under a lot of pressure because of the Valerie Plame thing, and it may get worse depending what Libby's attorneys want to know, and if he's called onto the stand.

I don't understand why Fox picked him up. I agree with Sammon, I also like Jeff Burnbaum of Fortune and William Kristol, of course. Kristol, unlike everyone else really *does* have a hotline to the White House. He called the Miers withdrawl a week before it was common knowledge.

I'm sure Brit will use him sparingly.

I thought Novak was a registered Democrat. Does that program with Mark Shields and Al Hunt still air, where Novak plays the conservative and the rest of the group constantly jumps all over him?

Last night the lineup was three Democrats and Brit, but Brit had no trouble holding his own against the three of them.

I heard several years ago that Novak was a registered Democrat but that he votes Republican.

I don't know what he said, because once he started the "poor response by the federal government to Katrina" without mentioning the state and local officials, I went to fill my car up with gas.

I don't need to waste my time with someone who is simply pushing the Beltway take on things.
