Cheney cleared in hunting accident

White House faces questions about disclosing incident

Tuesday, February 14, 2006; Posted: 1:19 p.m. EST (18:19 GMT)

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (CNN) -- Authorities have cleared Vice President Dick Cheney of wrongdoing in the Texas shooting of a hunting companion, while reporters aimed tough questions at White House officials about their delay in disclosing the accident.

During Tuesday's White House news conference, spokesman Scott McClellan was asked if waiting 14 hours after the shooting before Cheney spoke with police was appropriate, and whether an average citizen would have been afforded the same amount of time.

"That was what was arranged with the local law enforcement authorities," McClellan said. "You ought to ask them that question."

McClellan referred other questions about Cheney's shooting of campaign contributor Harry Whittington to the vice president's office and local police.

Hey Junk Journalists, the ONLY people who care about this story are YOU losers. The rest of American could care less. Get OVER yourselves Dinosaur Media. You are PRIVATE Businesses selling a product NOTHING more. You have NO standing in our Govt and NO ONE has ANY obligation to talk to you scum. Frankly the WH should give the entire junk journalist crowd the boot and talk to ONLY to the News Media. Let the Junk Journalists try their crap with the Talk Show hosts and the bloggers. See how these losers like it if they lose access to the news makers. The Dinosaur Media NEEDS access, Conservatives have NO reason to talk to them. It is NOT like their coverage could get any more partisan or bigoted.

I agree the Government certainly doesn't have any obligation to talk to the scum, and have been wondering why they don't yank their press passes? Its not like they have to make peace with these jackals because they will NEVER giver GWB a fair shake anyway so there is nothing GWB can preserve - kick them out. AND you are certainly correct about them being a private business making a profit - to listen to them you would think they are the 5th branch of government (the 4th is obviously the American Criminal Liars Union).

"Hey Junk Journalists, the ONLY people who care about this story are YOU losers."

Exactly.

I can tell you from the American Outback that MOST people this morning were more intersted in whether the Americans would still be able to win more gold in the Olympics than in this. It's the media INSISTING that we pay attention to THEM and not to our own hearts that's driving the latest frenzy.

Oh, to be balanced, there were TWO PEOPLE, (2) - countem' : II today - loudly yelling about Quaylegate. That was in a checkout line. The OTHER 50 or so people in the store, including cashiers, were skeptical - partly because they'd never seen the perps before.

The left does that : they send people out like Town Criers to declaim the Rotter of the Day and damn them in the court of Public Opinion so they can sway the vote.

Letterman goes too far. The comedians could joke about it, but it isn't a joke anymore when you imply they were drunk and out hunting. As I said, it wasn't part of his monologue. Some people out there might take it as fact. And you know what type I mean.

The funny thing is that people like David Gregory actually think they are intelligent.

Too bad it is so easy to fool most Americans most of the time - given the list of medications Cheney is probably taking (see above) I highly doubt he even drinks alcohol anymore:

From www.drugs.com

Zestril - Alcohol may further lower blood pressure and increase drowsiness and dizziness

Alcohol and Lipitor can both be damaging to the liver. Alcohol should be used only in moderation. Discuss the use of alcohol with your doctor so that the potential for liver problems can be determined.

Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking Tenormin

Avoid alcohol. It also widens blood vessels and may cause dizziness, drowsiness, and low blood pressure. It could be dangerous to combine alcohol with nitroglycerin.

Trental and Viagra (no interaction info found)

Alcohol may increase the side effects of Lasix.

Alcohol may increase drowsiness and dizziness while taking carvedilol

Avoid the use of alcohol and tobacco products. These products can alter the effects of Coumadin and cause problems with your therapy. Discuss the use of alcohol and tobacco with your doctor.

Drinking too much alcohol may increase the amount of uric acid in the blood and lessen the effects of allopurinol (Zyloprim). Therefore, people with gout and other people with too much uric acid in the body should be careful to limit the amount of alcohol they drink.
Avoid alcohol or use it with moderation. If you drink more than three alcoholic beverages a day, indomethacin (Indocin) may increase the risk of dangerous stomach bleeding. Talk to your doctor before taking indomethacin if you drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages a day.

Can't be murder, unless the hunting was somehow a felony. (Doesn't have the requisite intent)

May be manslaughter...

Voluntary manslaughter, if he was recklessly disregarding the safety of others (not likely, but the libs will love raising it)
involuntary manslaughter if he was merely negligent (tough to argue that he wasn't, since shooting likely has a much higher duty of care due to the dangerous nature)

If he dies at any time within "a year and a day" as a result (direct or indirect, like the heart problems), the Cheney can be held liable.

Once again, the libs sit and hope for more death, so they can revel in it.

(I'm not a lawyer, but this is what I recall from Criminal Law classes 2 years ago.)

Hunting stamps are required at additional cost in Texas for some wild game and fish. If you don't have the required stamp a costly fine is issued and game is confiscated. Purchasing a stamp after the fact does not cancel the fine. I have been fined for a couple violations that was not intensional but excuses are not acceptable. The people in the know should have insured the VP was in order. I have been lucky never to have had a hunting accident but have had close calls. I hope this turns out well for the VP, I try and remember as much as possible to thank goodness we have him and President Bush running our country.

I rarely go to DU, but I was curious, and it took me 30 seconds to find this comment (below) there. What's funny, is this is probably some young punk who hasn't even heard of Kennedy and the Chappiquiddick incident!

"Why call and report this to newspaper..Why not report it to the law enforcement officials first..Ya like you or I could get by with this
Its obvious he was probably drunk, not to report this for 24 hours Suppose a Democrat could get away with this?"

And how did the FBI files, we could go on all night.

Why did it take Ted Kennedy hours to contact the press. Even when a young woman was submerged in deep water, in Ted's car!!! SHE WAS DEAD!!!

And on & on....
