TAMPA - Gov. Jeb Bush took a rare opportunity to one-up late night talk show hosts Monday when he appeared at the Florida State Fair Governor's Day Luncheon.
Like other guests, the governor was given a "No Farmers, No Food" sticker from the Florida Farm Bureau.
Opening his remarks before the 1,000 or so guests gathered, Bush made a show of placing the sticker on his chest.
The sticker was bright orange - like a hunting jacket.
"I'm a little concerned that Dick Cheney is going to walk in," he quipped.
Now on a more serious note concerning the bruhaha over the time it took to report the accident to the public: Ted Kennedy: 24 hrs after a vehicular manslaughter-at best. The Clinton White House: said it took "all day and night to get notified of Vince Foster's "suicide."
Can anyone add any more here? Any more instances?
I'm still waiting for Kerry's DD Form 214.
There is a major difference between covering up an accident involving a gun and just not notifying the press.
The former is a crime, the latter is not.
Actually, I read that the Secret Service did notify the police within a few minutes of the shooting.
The press is just peeved because the next phone call was not to them. Whatever happened to the good old days when the press actually went out and looked for stories? Surely there must have been some press people around there who noticed the ambulances leaving, no? Guess not.
"Whatever happened to the good old days when the press actually went out and looked for stories?"
Like all other liberals, they expect the government to hand it to them. The welfare recipients of journalism.
You pretty much nailed it. The authorities were notified immediately; the press wasn't. The administration wanted to leave it up to the guy who got shot whether this would hit the airwaves.
ROFLMAO!!!!
Why oh why won't this man run?
Which one ?, he got two I think. One wasnt honorable from what I understand. Jimmy Carter cleared that up for him.
Its his form 180 he promised to sign but hasnt.
Run Jeb, run!!!!!
Not funny anymore, the old gentleman is back in the hospital
Didn't know, how serious?
Oh yeah. I know that. I was just pointing out that the press is deliberately confusing and obfuscating, making it appear that not reporting such incidents to the press is criminal, when in fact it is not.
Besides, their righteous indignation over this is fake. They know that the VP wasn't obligated to inform the press. They just want a brouhaha to try and gain political points against the VP and President.
How long did it take the Clinton White House to tell the press that Bill had blown his knee out while "walking to the guest house" after midnight at golfer Greg Norman's home?
Thats the difference between the Secret Service and the CIA, The secret service works for the administration, not for the Dems or the press. The Secret Service has integrity.
Whittington had a minor heart attack this morning http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1578356/posts
Exactly. I can't believe the amount of time that is being wasted on this - while Iran is busy arming and the world is certainly full of a lot of things that need reporting. But they might have to get out of the hotel room where they are listening to their "confidential" rumor mills - er, sources - and do something.
The poor guy probably suffered his heart attack because of all the commotion resulting from this.
Also, I suspect that the people where it happened just sort of assumed that the press would have noticed some commotion, and it would not have to be up to the ranch owner to call a newspaper the next day and nudge them.
I wish he'd run, too. He's very popular here in Florida, with all sorts of people. He has a very easy, comfortable public speaking manner but is very hard driving and has accomplished many, many things here. (He would have done more if the Dem-dominated courts hadn't been so opposed to him, of course.)
I've also read that the first doctor to treat the man thought he should go home; that a hospital stay was not necessary. In fact, the doctor was quoted as saying that the only reason he was taken to the hospital was BECAUSE Cheney was involved. As it has turned out, taking him to the hospital was the ABSOLUTE best thing to do. But, considering the first doctor's assessment, it makes sense that Cheney would give his friend the option of making this public (or not)
