Until this has some name behind the statements, it goes in my pile of salt (needs more than a grain).

I think you've touched on what's really happening. The incident is none of the press' business. It's up to the guy he shot and his family whether the press is notified.
If, God forbid, the Vice-President had been the victim, then the press should have been notified.

A source described as close to the Bush administration

A lot of Dems in DC might describe themselves that way. I don't believe this trash for one minute.

This should read: " White House is livid about the way "the PRESS CORPS" has handled the hunting accident----"

The da*n press has made this whole thing into a "Gotcha", and their hate for VP Cheney fuels them.

The one bright thing coming out of this is the disgust trail they are leaving

If the President was unhappy with how the VP was handling this, the VP would reverse course immediately.

I think this is a test case to show the MSM how truly juvenile and irrelevant they are becoming, and to further ascertain how much the WH can stiff them w/o hurting their public standing.

This article is a flat-out lie.

The White House is doing backflips of joy over the way the press went bonkers.

C'mon, 22 hrs before it's released?

It's just plain dumb. This thing could have been nipped before it even BECAME a bud.

Instead it just becomes egg on face - FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER except Stupidy.

Me too. I can't believe this story has gone on for two news cycles.

I feel bad for all those who were out in the hunting party, but geez!

Even the Plame thing could have easily been diffused by simply stating the cold hard facts. She wasn't undercover, and she was manipulating info on yellow cake by suggesting her democrat-funding hubby.

The White House has said that all along; MSM wants to get rid of President Bush, so they keep carping and coming up with all manner of silliness.

C'mon, 22 hrs before it's released?

It was reported everywhere else hours before the national media decided to run with it.

Bill O'Reilly has a great poll question.

O'Reilly Poll

Which story is more important: Al Gore accusing the USA of mistreating Arabs on US soil, or Dick Cheney delaying the accident announcement?

Gore

Cheney

Poll

I'm sorry, there are two problems:

1. This was an accident, and a rather pedestrian one. At some point, private handling of a private affair has to be, well, private. This wasn't Cheney tripping Chirac at a state dinner or something.
2. As the victim, his buddy has the legal say-so on when to release such information, especially on his own medical status. If the VP had blabbed about that, they would have tagged him for violating his friend's privacy.

The press is stoking this hoopla *completely* artificially. It's irritating and disgusting.

Well... it would have been, if it weren't for some moronic decisions by the VP's staff.

You mean like having the courtesy to let the OWNER of the property be the one who gave the information to the press? She and the VP were more interested in making sure Mr. Whittington was alive and getting care than calling the press. When everything was settled down, she notified a newspaper and reporter she trusted. The White House press corp and the national networks are just pi$$ed because none of them were able to get an 'exclusive' on the story.

I think it would show Cheney really cares if he went on camera for the statement. Right now they are acting like he is hiding.
