AMANDA is an acronym for Antartic Muon And Neutrino Detector Array. The homepage of physicist David Casper, who led the team which discovered neutrino oscillations, explains the importance of neutrino studies to the advancment towards a unified theory of the forces of nature, as well as providing links to some good papers, including a new experiment called MINERvA (another feminine name, but appropriate, given that Minerva was the Greek goddess of science). And incidentally, Casper was also one of three conservative scientists profiled in an article in The Scientist during the last federal elections, when the Bush=Anti-Science drumming was reaching fever pitch.
