I haven't seen the union contracts, but I imagine so. Not only that, but Dubai doesn't have workers to export, nor would they be allowed in the US to displace American jobs.

It's a change of management in port operations. It's not a change of workforce.

Nor is Dubai anything like the crazy street scenes in Pakistan.

Some here are imagining their worst stereotypes of what muslims are, and envisioning the street thugs in charge of our ports. That's ridiculous.

Why we should not trust UAE, let me count the ways...

"the port operator is responsible for securing cargo coming in and out of the port, the port facility itself and the hiring of security personnel."

"Currently, only 1 in 20 containers are checked, and 95% of all goods imported arrive through our ports."

"Dubai has been named as a key tranport point of nuclear components to N Korea, Iran, and Libya, sold by Pakistan."

"2 of 9/11 hijackers were UAE nationals and the FBI claimed money used for the attacks were transferred to the 9/11 hijackers through UAE banks. Furthermore, after 9/11, the Dept of Treasury complained of a lck of cooperation by UAE and other Arab countries as the US was trying to track down UBL's bank accounts."

"UAE is increasing trade opportunities with Iran."

You are correct. I can't remember what I read it in (sorry!), but I've just read so much about this today!

This article stated that American Labor Unions would retain control of dock workers. (If that is supposed to be reassuring, it isn't, but that's another story!)

I realize it is not PC to state prejudice. BUT, let's face it, at this time in history (not all) but our biggest problem is the security threats that is directed from Arabs.

Now, we are not going to see turban wearing men with AK-47's, it doesn't work like that. There is more chance of bombs, WMD, etc. being smuggled in and there being employees from this company involved. (I am not sayin that DPW would be directly involved, but just used indirectly.)

The risk is not worth it. We need to find another company. This is not the time for hurt feelings.

Do we check shipments from Columbia South America for Drugs? Why? It's not prejudice, it's reputation, and reptition of known problems. The level of safety we are speaking of is huge.

The CIA believes that Baltimore is a port that terrorists would most likely use to smuggle WMD or a bomb through. If this is already a possibility, who do you believe these terrorists be? If they are Middle Eastern, then let's just not go there. I hope there is another company..

What is your view on Dave Sanborne?
