Able Danger on CNN (Lou Dobbs Transcript from last night)
CNN ^ | Aired February 16, 2006 - 18:00 ET | Transcript

Posted on 02/17/2006 7:00:05 AM PST by americaprd

REP. CURT WELDON: In the opening hearing, in the closed hearing, we had five people testify that they agree with Louis Freeh. That the information they had could have prevented 9/11 from ever happening. And they testified under oath. The Defense Department said they didn't have any information.

WELDON: You know, Zelicow (ph) should have testified in open session, because nothing he said was classified. I don't think he wants to be in open session to let the American people see us question him. We should have had Dieter Snell there. He's the guy that debriefed Scott Philpot.

DOBBS: Congressman, apologize for interrupting, but this is beginning to look like it would serve the interest of neither Democrats nor Republicans, the latter Clinton administration, nor the Bush administration for the truth to come out here. Is that what you're really fighting here as well as a Defense Department DIA entrenched bureaucracy.

WELDON: Yes. And I don't think it's either President Clinton, nor President Bush, it's the underlings. It's the bureaucrats who fear embarrassment. They're in this CYA mode. They don't want anything to come out and they will ruin the career and life of anyone who dares to put forth information that's truthful, that could contradict that.

You hit the nail on the head. I said it yesterday. I'm very frustrated because I don't think either bureaucracy, either administration, wants the full truth to be told to the American people. I voted for the 9/11 Commission. I supported almost all their recommendations and continue to do that. But we've never yet had the true story and I don't think the commissioners were ever briefed. That decision to not briefed them was stopped by staff.

I pulled out some of the most relevant/interesting portions of the transcript (can't post the whole thing here).

Dobbs devoted nearly the whole second portion of the show to Able Danger (first with apologist Time Roemer) and then with Weldon.

Weldon made a point of taking Cspan to task for not covering it and noted that CNN was the only network with any interest in the issue. Is it time to start emailing Fox to tell them to get on the ball?

Perhaps Fox is taking their cues from intelligence sources telling them not to cover this? I think we need to freep fox on this.

The Hearing was 2 days ago, now.

The story is still getting no traction in the media nor on Capitol Hill.

Both sides and the bureaucracy want it buried. It seems they may succeed.

Tony Snow, on his radio program this morning, spend 10 minutes of a silly Cheney parody. First two callers chastised him for spending MORE time on the Cheney accident and less time on significant, real issues, including the ports affair and Able Danger.

No media seems to want to cover Able Danger.

That's why Rove had Cheney shoot Whittington.

Tony Snow has Curt Weldon coming up. The reason Tony focused on other issues this morning is trying to work around Weldon's schedule.

On Tony Snow:

Weldon said work on on data mining was shutdown because of connections to prominent politicians. LIWA work on China had connections to people at Stanford because one of the Chinese students involved in proliferation was a student there. As a result linked to Rice and Bill Perry, who probably did nothing wrong. But becuase their names showed up, it alarmed a lot of people. Its a shame...

That's amazing that Zelikow refused to testify openly. He should have been sworn and forced to testify under oath in open session.

And now he's working for Eliot Spitzer. Just incredible! People really do fail upward in this Godforsaken government bureaucracy of ours.

Thanks! Got it on now. Weldon talking baout the IG investigation going on to clear Colonel Shaeffer. He said he's satisfied with how it's going.

He's attacking the 'bureacracy' pretty well, though and rightfully so.

He's CFR like half the Commission is - a Rockefeller created cabal whose ranks have grown from 3000 in 95 to 4000 today. If you watched Alice (ex Fed Gov & CFR) Rivlin's interview w/Steve Forbes re: his flat book - any dimwit could see she's socialist(rotten) to the core.

The CFR membership is comprised entirely of elite industrialists (war machine merchants), media & politicos. They meet in secret and must pledge a non-attribution oath for anything they say in public. CYA all the way.

Most all presidents and their entire cabinets since WWII have been CFR members & Tri-Lats as well.

I hope the Internet can save us - these slimey connections were virtually unknown before it.

I know what you speak of. Reagan was probably the only President close to a real outsider in recent history.

Representative Weldon clearly is not a roundtable-approved guy. I can tell he's a good man and I wish him well, but I have a feeling he's not going to make it in the system much longer.
