That's what I think too - the first reports were that he was more concerned about how this would impact Cheney than his own well-being. Sounds like a good Southern gentleman to me.

I'll tell you how they can prove he was drunk. A few key phrases can be taken in one of two ways: Anonymous source reveals that the Vice President was indeed *taking shots* all day, and people at the hospital noticed a definite *smell of alcohol*. It's up to the reader to decide which means what. Because, Hey, they don't make the news, they just report it.
