EDITORIAL: What is Al Gore thinking?
Las Vegas Review-Journal ^ | Feb. 17, 2006 | EDITORIAL

Comments in Middle East border on bizarre...

Bill Clinton (in Qatar) called the cartoon depictions of Muhammad published by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten last fall "totally outrageous cartoons against Islam," ...

In fact, the cartoons are pretty tame stuff -- the Islamic prophet is not shown as dirty, drooling, shaped like an animal or engaged in any unsavory acts, all standard for cartoon depictions of Jews in the modern Arab press.

Mr. Clinton is entitled to his opinion, of course, though one wonders why he would want to gin up more hostility toward the West with an inflammatory characterization of drawings his audience might not yet have been able to view for themselves.

But if Mr. Clinton's description was merely excessive, the remarks of... Al Gore to the Jiddah Economic Forum ...go far beyond any mere verbal stumbling or understandable desire to ingratiate himself with his hosts.

This goes beyond being politically unwise. It is bizarre.

Al Gore clearly has a problem.

The son of a famous father, Mr. Gore is "deeply insecure about his ability, stature and credentials," ..."Why Gore lies."

"He feels that he needs to go the extra mile to burnish his image even if he has to make things up," wrote Mr. Morris -- himself no paragon of rectitude, let us hasten to add.

But perhaps it takes one to know one.

Those in foreign lands may not realize Al Gore is merely one of our more excitable peddlers of tall tales.

(Remember how he invented the Internet?)

What on earth might happen if they believe him?

Thank goodness no one ever placed this man in a position where the fate of nations might have hung on his word.

Oh, wait ...

I believe that in verse 4:140, the Quran recommends to passively protest those who indulge in mockery of the muslim faith by leaving their presence. Additionally, the Quran considers Jesus and Moses as "selected messengers and prophets of God" and it asks muslims not to discriminate among the messengers (Quran verse 2:136).

Yet, in reality, when similar criticism or insults are directed at Jesus or Moses these "holy warriors" have no reaction! The Taliban destroyed religous sculptures in Afghanistan and muslims masses around the world remained silent ~ except, of course, for those who publicly celebrated the news.

As I understand it, according to the Quran, only the "depiction" of God is blasphemous ~ since God does not look like anything His creatures can imagine and the Quran never approves the suppression of false and disrespectful religious or nonreligious opinions. Rather, it recommends muslims not cut their relationship with transgressors ~ it calls for them to turn back in peace and continue a dialogue when the transgressor ... to engage in a rational discourse.

When examined, the "outrage" over the danish cartoons is outrageously hypocritical!! How does a believer in the Quran, a follower of Muhammad, justify reacting to disparaging cartoons in a manner that directly contradicts the advise of the very book in which he professes to believe? The "teachings" of Islam are not being represented and defended by people who do not respect the message of the Quran. (Sura An-Nisaa verses 4:136,4:150 - 4:151)

It is a typo: the title ought to have been: "What is Al Gore Thinking With?" Those responsible for the oversight are to be disciplined.

You are absolutely correct.

These Holy Warriors are indeed Hypocrites when they pick and choose with what they are offended by.

Since I am not as erudite as you, my point is that there is a difference in saying FU to someone, as opposed to F Your Mother.

Any caricature depicting Muslims in bad light is equivalent to saying the first.

Bringing the Prophet in, makes it category-II and hence all the mess.

IMHO Al Gore's thinking "I can trash my country, trash my President and ka-ching, money will roll in forever. I'll sell-out to the bin Laden's - they have the most... (Gore's one sick a--hole)

Al Gore: I am here to educate you about the single biggest threat to our planet. You see, there is something out there which threatens our very existence and may be the end to the human race as we know it. I'm talking, of course, about Manbearpig

Kyle: Manbearpig?

Al Gore: It is a creature which roams the Earth alone. It is half man, half bear, and half pig. Some people say that Manbearpig isn't real. Well , I'm here to tell you now, Manbearpig is very real, and he most certainly exists--I'm cereal. Manbearpig doesn't care what you've done. Manbearpig just wants to get you. I'm super cereal. But have no fear, because I am here to save you. And someday, when the world is rid of Manbearpig, everyone will say, "Thank you Al Gore--you're super awesome!" The end.

Mr. Mackey: Uh, Okay. Thank You, Mr. Gore.

Al Gore: Thank you class. Excelsior!!
