WSJ: The We’re Schizophrenic Journal The Wall Street Journal has a reputation for being conservative (at least on economic issues) and Republican. It’s true that the editorial department consistently takes pro-business, country club Republican positions. But the news department is a different story. It’s filled with journalists who went to the same lefty journalism schools as their peers at the New York Times and the Washington Post. Witness these different takes on Barack Obama’s record in the Illinois legislature. An editorial from the editorial department: http://www.opinionjournal.com/federation/feature/?id=110009664 -------------------------------- Obama downplayed his thin federal experience while championing his record on the state...

When Christine Drake worked as a Starbucks barista, the Seattle woman with psychiatric disabilities said it was the first time in her life that she "felt a sense of accomplishment." But after two years on the job, a new manager at the Starbucks store at 425 Queen Anne Ave. N. in Seattle allegedly discriminated against Drake, decreased her hours and berated her in front of customers, according to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Lisa Cox, an EEOC lawyer, said the world's largest coffee retailer ignored Drake's requests for help and violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by not accommodating...

A liquor store customer was arrested for allegedly pulling a knife on a clerk he thought was a "Muslim militia terrorist," police said. Elias Michael Banales, 31, was arrested and booked for investigation of brandishing a knife, making terrorist threats and hate crime allegations. He remained in jail with bail set at $50,000. Banales allegedly told the clerk at Speedy Liquor and Mart on Spring Street that "he hated Muslims and that they should all be killed," according to the police report. The name of the clerk and his nationality and religious background weren't disclosed. Banales fled when a customer...

LOS ANGELES – Last year, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger backed a federal plan to build a stretch of border fence between San Diego and Tijuana. This week, he said walling off hundreds of miles of the California-Mexico border is a strategy from the Stone Age. It's not the only example of his complex – and sometimes shifting – views on illegal immigration, an issue that has given rise to a national movement during his time in office. California's governor certainly should have a role in the debate over leaky borders and the not-so-invisible illegal labor economy. The state has more illegal...

Jessica Wilcox was born into a humble family on New Year’s Eve of 1925. Her father left them when she was three; her mother was critical and cold to her. The young girl was often left alone for hours in a dark room, and hence, as children are wont to do, she created an imaginary friends with whom to pass the time. With these imaginary friends, Jessica forged strong friendships, chief among them was one named Arlene, who hung around for many years and grew up with Jessica despite being an almost polar opposite of her: Jessica was open...

Saturday, March 04, 2006...and Now Positive Actions By the Bush Administration and Russia The world community continues to dance around Hamas, weaving to and fro, changing directions at such an amazing rate as to cause a sort of political whiplash for those of us observing and trying to figure out what a given country's policy really is. I've described Bush administration policy as schizophrenic. Here is a lovely example of why. Two days ago I chastised the Bush administration for cheering a European Union decision to release €120 million ($143 million) in aid to the Palestinian Authority, pointing out that...

Comments in Middle East border on bizarre... Bill Clinton (in Qatar) called the cartoon depictions of Muhammad published by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten last fall "totally outrageous cartoons against Islam," ... In fact, the cartoons are pretty tame stuff -- the Islamic prophet is not shown as dirty, drooling, shaped like an animal or engaged in any unsavory acts, all standard for cartoon depictions of Jews in the modern Arab press. Mr. Clinton is entitled to his opinion, of course, though one wonders why he would want to gin up more hostility toward the West with an inflammatory characterization of...

http://www.nbc30.com/news/6155121/detail.html All day I considered losing my anonymity to post this, but it's too important to let it go. I have seen that Freepers are an extremely supportive bunch, so I knew this was a good idea. My brother has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and it is has been in the single digits/teens in CT since yesterday. My brother left home without his wallet, carrying just a backpack. He said he was going for a walk and never returned. My family and I are worried SICK. We need all the prayer we can get. Pray that my younger brother...

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan is now "channeling" her slain son, Casey, from heaven, suggesting he's calling President Bush "an idiot," and she claims to have "tens of thousands of angels" supporting her cause to bring U.S. troops home immediately. "When I get up [to heaven], he's gonna say, 'Good job, mom,'" Mrs. Sheehan said in a speech last night upon her return to Crawford, Texas. "He's not going to say, 'Why'd you make me spin in my grave?' you know. And I can just hear him saying, 'George Bush, you are really an idiot. You didn't know what you were...

http://netwmd.com/articles/article890.html After a first term marked by schizophrenic Iran policy initiatives, the Bush White House will soon develop a coordinated policy to promote peaceful regime change in Iran. The Bush administration is heartened by the apparent success of the Iraqi election and believes that Iranians are ready to exert their democratic rights. Bush policy is motivated by the grave and growing threat from the Islamic Republic's nuclear weapons program, and the realization that neither Iran nor the European Union are sincere in preventing Iran's acquisition of nuclear weaponry. The Islamic Republic's potential threat to American security emanates from Tehran's determination...

BAGHDAD — Predawn explosions yesterday ripped through five empty Christian churches in the Iraqi capital, ... Thousands of Christians have fled Iraq since the fall of the regime of Saddam Hussein. The church bombings, while claiming no casualties, appeared calculated to intimidate the remaining believers, estimated to number about 800,000. ... "It was horrible," said Odet Abdul, 48, who attends one of the bombed churches and lives around the block, adding that she thought she was about to die when she heard the blast. "They want us to leave Iraq; that is the message." ... Christians in the capital swept...

In his new monograph on immigration and terrorism, Bearers of Global Jihad, Robert S. Leiken of the Nixon Center says something that is painfully self-evident, yet rarely expressed so plainly: The sole source of the growth of jihadism and terrorism in the West is Moslem immigration. Leiken emphasizes the European sources of the Moslem terrorists entering America. He recommends greater caution toward visitors and immigrants from Europe and more careful screening for possible sleeper cells and hit squads. But preceding these practical suggestions, Leiken's first recommendation, as Daniel Pipes summarizes it in the New York Sun, is as follows:"Assimilating indigenous...

Former Iranian president, Hashemi Rafsanjani on Friday condemned the American policies in Iraq and said the US measures and policies are detrimental to the international community. Speaking in Tehran, Rafsanjani said the United States erroneously thinks it can achieve its aims and objectives by following up false policies in Iraq. He said supporting the Israeli regime is another mistake committed by the United States. He went on to say that Al-Qaeda and Taliban which have created so many problems for the modern world have been created by the United States. According to IRIB, Rafsanjani said the United States has paid...

Summary: Saudi Arabia is in the throes of a crisis, but its elite is bitterly divided on how to escape it. Crown Prince Abdullah leads a camp of liberal reformers seeking rapprochement with the West, while Prince Nayef, the interior minister, sides with an anti-American Wahhabi religious establishment that has much in common with al Qaeda. Abdullah cuts a higher profile abroad -- but at home Nayef casts a longer and darker shadow. Michael Scott Doran is Assistant Professor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University and Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. THE DUAL MONARCHY When...
