Here's a follow-up on the fight to honor Col. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington of "Black Sheep Squadron" fame at the University of Washington. Renee Fricke, Director of the Annual Giving Programs at the University of Washington Foundation, e-mails:

Michelle, You might be interested to know that we've set up the Lt. Col. Gregory "Pappy" Boyington Memorial Scholarship Fund through the University of Washington Foundation and have provided a link on the UW Foundation website for folks who want to support this effort. We've gotten a number of e-mails expressing an interest in supporting this fund.

This fund will provide scholarships to undergraduate students who are either a U.S Marine Corps veteran or are the child of a U.S Marine Corps veteran.

Here's the link to support this effort:

Well at least the alumni aren't as brainwashed by the leftist regime as the students obviously are. Kudos to them.

They had on of the little twits on Fox News saying how Pappy Boyington killed a lot of people and they didn't want a memorial to that. Their moral blindness is sickening as it is dangerous.

Wouldn't it make more sense to set up the fund at U Wash's biggest rival?

There really isn't any major rival in the Pacific Northwest. While sometimes the names of schools like WSU or the University of Oregon are bandied about as rivals, in reality UW is the major force in education in the Pacific Northwest. Most of that is due to the medical school (which, without qualifications, is one of the best in the world), and the massive amount of political clout UW has. A very significant number (if not an outright majority) of business leaders and politicians in the Pacific Northwest have studied at UW or have strong connections to UW.

I find it unlikely that any politicians or business leaders in the state of Washington would even consider trying to diminish UW's importance. This is sort of unfortunate in a way, because with all the focus on UW, the state of Washington has not built enough schools to allow the majority of students in state the ability to study at a school in Washington.

Their moral blindness is sickening as it is dangerous.

I watched Fox News and wondered if that idiot ever stopped to think that it was because of people like Pappy Boyington that he has the freedom to attend a university and enjoy the lifestyle he has.

I saw that.

Honestly, when I see stuff like that, I can understand how somebody might decide to murder somebody.

The LAST place a scholarship in Boyington's name should go is UW. No matter who the recipient is, the money goes to the school. Send 'em somewhere where a school knows and honors what Pappy stood for - not the University of Havana Lite.
