The week that was at the White House (David Gregory "blogs" his side of story)
MSNBC ^ | 2/17/06 | David Gregory

Posted on 02/18/2006 4:31:49 AM PST by frankjr

It's been a rough and tumble week in the White House press room over the Cheney hunting story. Many viewers have written me with praise and plenty of criticism about my questioning of press secretary Scott McClellan.

Let me say at the outset that I was wrong to lose my temper at Scott McClellan. I've worked well with Scott since we first met during the 2000 campaign. Monday, he suggested my aggressive questioning about the disclosure of the hunting accident was a stunt for the cameras. He said this during a morning OFF CAMERA briefing, which undercut his point. Furthermore, I considered it a cheap shot. I said, "Don't be a jerk to me personally, just answer the question." I regret saying that because it's never appropriate to speak that way and because it created a distraction from the issues at hand.

Putting that aside, I do not apologize for asking tough questions about this story. I'm in the business of getting information -- as much of it as possible....I have not made any judgments about the facts of this story as it pertains to what happened on the Armstrong ranch....Mr. Cheney, in my view, acted as if he had something to hide.

Yet the debate playing out in the blogosphere, cable airwaves and on talk radio pits the Vice President against an allegedly left-wing, overly cynical, prissy White House press corps in a tizzy because it wasn't the first to know and angry because it hates the President and Vice President anyway. This is nonsense....Have you Googled transcripts from the Clinton administration at the height of the Lewinsky scandal?

What he needs is a binky (pacifier) - in pink!

But binkies don't make noise as you walk down the aisle with an armload of packages.

Those things work. We sent "puff balls" to Blitzer and he gave some consideration to the other side of the story for a while and even used the term "puff ball question" on the air once.

You can't reason with them, but a rattle or a diaper is like a tazer to their ego.

Yes, and your cynical, prissy, effeminate, mincing prattle was on full display then. As was your present penchant to run over to Imus the next day and titter about how catty you were.

Which has nothing to do with journalism.

Gregory is a childish prick! Remember him trying to goad the President into apoligising for his "mistakes"?

I mean he asked him twice in the same news conference, and acted as if everybody in the world thought Bush made a mistake and he should apologise for it except for Bush.

David "Temper Tamtrum" Gregory. (TT)

Then perhaps rattles are also in order for Arianna Huff 'n Puff, Alec Baldwin, Al Gore + a few others. We should make a list.
If enough of us send them to enough people, it should make the news somewhere along the way. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WANT YOU BABIES TO SHUT UP AND GET OVER IT! WE WON THE ELECTION, IRAQ WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO, CHENEY WASN'T DRUNK, THE PREZ DOESN'T NEED YOUR APPROVAL TO WIRETAP. GET. OVER. IT.

He said this during a morning OFF CAMERA briefing, which undercutscores his point.

Personally, I think it was all just a plot by Rove to make the press look like idiots.

Hey, Dick! Shoot one of your friends so we can goad the Washington press into acting like whiny babies.

Sure, Karl. Will do.

Give 'em a break. At least he read my email to NBC. Except I know I didn't use "allegedly".......

The Lewinsky Scandal (note it is still about sex) - we should be calling it the "Clinton Perjury and Obstruction Scandal" - is the least of Clinton's crimes. Ask David about the others. The Monica affair only got any press because "sex sells"

I'm glad you straightened out that exchange between McClellan and Gregory in reply #1.

For him to equate the press's treatment of Lewinsky with this is ludicrous. First, they were forced into that story by Drudge; they initially SPIKED the story! However, there is a great posting about the way the press treated the Foster case and this one. It took at least a WEEK before the journalists (because they were forced to by the circumstances) to report (not question! not imply cover-up as they did here) the fact that the WHite House had TAKEN OUT files from Vince Foster's office after learning of his suicide. In the INITIAL reporting, they blamed THEMSELVES, remember? They said that the WSJ had written a nasty editorial and "pushed" Foster to do it.
This guy is simply a liberal shill...and everyone knows it.

David Gregory does not have the charm or demeanor to act like his hero, Sam Donaldson. He is an angry individual and it comes through crystal clear whenever he speaks.
