The worst automobile drivers are in California, followed by Illinois and New York. How they left out Massachusetts is beyond me. And Upstate New York drivers are far better than those in the metro NYC area.

How they left out Massachusetts is beyond me. Me either. IMO, they follow California as the meanest of the bunch. Detroit is a close third. NYC traffic barely moves so who can tell?
The nicest - Cleveland. More than once I had people get out of their cars and direct traffic so I could turn where I want to. Horrible weather, great people.

I'm confused about the absence of Mass on that list as well. Perhaps Ted Kennedy couldn't be reached to take the survey.
I formulated a theory sitting in NYC metro traffic. They ride their subways and taxis for 5 out of the 7 days, then on Friday night they blow the dust off their car and make the drive to upstate, CT, NH, Jersey shore etc. They literally don't have the same drivings experience as everyone else. Okay, i think about done stereotyping and generalizing ;) I'm just jealous i have to sit in traffic everyday instead of walking a block to the metro.

Catskill drivers are the worst in the world, you routinely find them in the left lane on the Thurway doing 45-55mph (Speed limit 65)and they refuse to move.
And god forbid there's ever a slow down, they become so trumatized that they may actually have to hit the brake that they will keep 10 car lengths for every MPH they are going and when the slowdown breaks they will still drive at 20 mph for 5-10 minutes before they are "brave" enough to go 45-55 mph again.
And they are so afraid of passing a truck unless there's a long straight away (which are rare on the Thurway) that they will stay at it's rear left for miles & miles blocking anyone else from passing.
Adirondack drivers at least stay to the right, but they to also drive real slow, the only time they want to go at or above the speed limit is during heavy snowsnows
