Senate Republican Leader Bill Frist called Tuesday for the Bush administration to stop a deal permitting a United Arab Emirates company to take over six major U.S. seaports, upping the ante on a fight that several congressmen, governors and mayors are waging with the White House.
"The decision to finalize this deal should be put on hold until the administration conducts a more extensive review of this matter," said Frist. "If the administration cannot delay this process, I plan on introducing legislation to ensure that the deal is placed on hold until this decision gets a more thorough review."
In the uneasy climate after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Bush administration decision to allow the transaction is threatening to develop a major political headache for the White House.
"I'm not against foreign ownership," said Frist, "but my main concern is national security." He was speaking to reporters in Long Beach, Calif., where Frist was doing a fact-finding tour on port security and immigration issues.

You know, this fact has been the only thing that's given me pause on this whole hyperbolic, hysterical escapade.
Correction: "pacelvi" is the poster.
>>Does anyone other than a DemonRat or a MSM agent think Bush is THAT stupid or would jeopardize this country?<<
Bush? Oh yeah, that guy who is leaving our borders wide open.
Good for Frist. We're at war. President Bush has been reminding us of that with every major speech and it seems only logical that he would regard port security and port management as something that Congress should be involved with.
Dubai certainly is not known for it's unparalled objectivity and when I read the White House justification of this UAE deal as being one based upon the Dubai firm as being "good businessmen," I immediately wondered just what they'd do when or as provided with greater incentives from someone who wanted the destruction of the U.S.
Someone like...well, you know...collective muslim money. If the Dubai firm is following the "good business" model, they'd be doing then "good business" by pursing a higher profit from someone else, say, someone who was an enemy of the U.S....like from Venezuela, Castro, et al.
The whole deal should be thrown out and the country's security taken far more seriously than this. Bush made a big mistake here and so did Condoleezza Rice by defending the process and the decision itself.
Otherwise, there's been no statement to the contrary. Same with border security. These are situations that they fail miserably at by not offering much to no credibil explanation about why they're doing what.
I just posted that link on another thread. He has some good stuff.

Especially when hillary was one of the first bitching. There's got to be an angle to this. Besides the usual ABB rantings of the left.
I will say that President Bush is doing a good job with the energy policy. He is getting out into the energy sector with a hardhat. Carter got on TV wearing a sweater and told us to tough it out.
I hope he succeeds. If there's anything worse than outsourcing the nation's manufacturing base, it's outsourcing national security.
I'm pretty sure he will have to back down on this. Too many on his own team finally listening to constituents.
The contracts are cancelled. And also Dubai(UAE) is not saudi arabia and is the most westernized of the Gulf states. They even have Christian churches there.
This is VERY dense. But you nothing surprises me because inside the Beltway people live in a different world from everybody else, where they can be insulated on issues like this one.
How is that jeopardizing this country?
Some of us simply don't want an ARAB company running our ports. And why should we want them to?
Time to put a halt to H1 visas.
We have hundreds of thousands from the Middle East come here on J and H visas and eventually stay illegally.
I concur.
The President is not stupid!.
I'm sure he went along with this, and I don't thinks is the current trade negotiations with the UAE.
I expect GWB to back down on this one. He's so totally lacking in support outside the party, that he has no chance to play against the base.
Sorry, but I think it's ALL about money - BIG money in this case. Backroom deals esp. those with the potential enemy (Arab countries) are WRONG. Flat out WRONG.
To that I say:
