the higher the amount of the future value -- the lower the amount of present value. (An oversimplification). Anyway -- the present value of 365 mill is 220 -- because 220 grows fast. Thus the delta is larger.

What would you do?

To be honest, this is what I would like to do:

1) Accept the present value as given.

2) file a class action law suit against the lottery group based on their PV calculation and:

3) Based on the amount that is paid out vs. the amounts they allow for advertising and overhead (A & O).

4) Regarding the lawsuit:
a) Compare the numbers the state allows for itself for A&O, vs. those mandated for legal gambling operations (horse racing for example).
b) If one compares the numbers, I think we would see that the rules set for themselves is far more lenient in their favor (this would be the basis of the lawsuit)
c) Law suit would be class action on behalf of all winners.
d) If the lawsuit is either won or settled, proceeds from the settlement would be donated to charity.
e) Ultimate goal of the lawsuit would be to require that the state operate it's gambling operations in the same manner that they dictate to private gambling operations.

Pretty diverse group. About the only demographic not represented were blacks. Quick somebody point this out to shakedown Jackson.

well, actually : Alain Maboussou, 26, fled from the Congo in 1999 to escape the civil war there.

Alain's definitely a black. Good for him, let him enjoy the american dream (and may his children do so too and be an asset to the USA)
