While Democrats and Republicans vent their anger over the Bush Administrations decision to allow a United Arab Emirates-based company from taking control of Americas east coast ports (from a British company), I have a question: Exactly what responsibility and authority does this UAE company have? Specifically, how is U.S. security weakened?
I dont know, and I bet 99.5% of the people discussing the threat dont know. As a matter of fact, Ill bet most of us have no idea what managing a port entails.

Revelation 18-- 15: The merchants of these wares, who gained wealth from her, will stand far off, in fear of her torment, weeping and mourning aloud, 16: "Alas, alas, for the great city that was clothed in fine linen, in purple and scarlet, bedecked with gold, with jewels, and with pearls! 17: In one hour all this wealth has been laid waste." And all shipmasters and seafaring men, sailors and all whose trade is on the sea, stood far off 18: and cried out as they saw the smoke of her burning, "What city was like the great city?" 19: And they threw dust on their heads, as they wept and mourned, crying out, "Alas, alas, for the great city where all who had ships at sea grew rich by her wealth! In one hour she has been laid waste.
I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't more to make House and Senate look good?
Chilling verse. What say you? New York? London?
The democrats are grandstanding, as always, the republicans, I think, are genuinely concerned...

i have reservations about this deal but my question is, arab vessels do not call @ israeli ports(nscsa & usac), israeli carrier zim does not call @ mideast ports, does anybody know how this will affect the operations if the deal goes through...
Sure. If clinton had been in power he would have negotiated the deal and raked off 5% for his Swiss bank accounts.
Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that Bush is right to support it. For once, the Democrats have a genuine issue to work with. There's no getting around the security risks.
Arabs Buy and Influence U.S. Media
February 22, 2006
WASHINGTON, DC -- With the media raising a hue and cry about an Arab company managing U.S. ports, Accuracy in Media (AIM) editor Cliff Kincaid today urged a congressional inquiry into how Arabs are buying into major U.S. media companies.
"Shares in Time Warner and News Corporation (parent of Fox News) are being sold to powerful Arab investors without any national controversy," Kincaid noted. "But with the media being a critical battlefield in the war on terror, Arab financial ties to Western news organizations must be thoroughly examined."
Kincaid said that he found it strange that the U.S. media have buried the news that Istithmar, an investment company based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the same country involved in the port controversy, recently acquired a stake in Time Warner. What's more, controversial Saudi Prince al-Waleed Bin Talal, one of the world's richest people, has invested in both Time Warner and News Corporation. At an Arab media conference in December, held in the UAE, al-Waleed openly boasted of altering Fox News Channel's coverage of the Muslim riots in France by making a telephone call to News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch.
Kincaid said that prominent members of the U.S. media scheduled to attend the Arab media conference in Dubai were from the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, CBS News, USA Today, the Public Broadcasting Service, Bloomberg News, and Time magazine.
"Perhaps this helps explain why Arab influence over the U.S. media is a story that doesn't see the light of day," he said.
Accuracy In Media (AIM) is a non-profit, grassroots citizens watchdog of the news media that critiques botched and bungled news stories and sets the record straight on important issues that have received slanted coverage.

The Department of Homeland Defense, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Depart of Defense and non-union maritime organizations are trying to figure out what the big deal is.
Bush can argue how right he is and how wrong 200 million Americans or more are, and he may be right, but from a political perspective this is the dumbest thing I have ever seen in over 50 years. When it comes to war you have to keep things really simple to convince people to send their sons and daughters off to fight. Bush just failed the KISS test on this one.
Both. Grandstanding by libs, and concern by true conservatives.
Precisely BECAUSE we don't know much, nor do we pay much attention, we want trusted people.
What did we know about Islam before 9/11? What we learned since then is that they live by deceit (taqquya, hudna), that they are tribalistic (will stick up for their own over "good unto itself"), that the country involved is a terrorist and terror state supporter.
Are ports sensitive? Yes
Can Muslims be trusted? No
We don't have to know how ports are run. In fact, I'm afraid of having to learn, just as I had to learn about Islam. Not our of pleasure or curiosity, but out of necessity.
They have not earned the trust. Period.
There are an awful lot of Republicans and conservatives who oppose Bush on this issue. The liberals are coming along for the ride because it hurts Bush. That is, unless you define "liberal" as someone who opposes Bush.
I think when its all said and done the truth will come out that the only thing the RATS fear is a loss of union jobs.
The whole thing was a smokescreen and all you lemmings fell for it hook line and sinker.
Wake up and use your brain to think and do some actual research and don't just read and react to headlines you automotons!!!!!!
UAE will not own anything and will have nothing to do with security in these ports. That is done by US customs and the Coast Guard.
Ironically, the UAE secures much of the cargo that comes into US ports at the other end.
This whole thing is idiotic, in that it lets Democrats look like they are tough on security, when in fact, they don't even have a clue.
Why? UAE has nothing to do with security in the ports. This is done by US customs and the Coast Guard. Most of our ports are allready handled by foreign companies.
