As violence spread across Iraq during Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's visit to the Middle East this week, kings, presidents and prime ministers told her that they were concerned that sectarian violence could spread across the Middle East.

"It came up pretty much everywhere," said a senior State Department official traveling with Ms. Rice.

During this trip, Ms. Rice met with leaders of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates and the other Persian Gulf states.

One of the senior officials traveling with Ms. Rice said the Arab leaders, in their conversations with her, were particularly concerned that "outsiders could stir up trouble in Lebanon and perhaps the Palestinian territories."

You are clueless wrt the port deal since it involves our greatest ally and asset in the Gulf a country which is completely on board with the War on Terror. A majority of our war effort in Iraq and Afganistan uses bases and ports from the UAE to maintain those efforts.

Blind hysteria and belief in the Treason Media/Party of Treason propaganda is the LAST thing a conservative wants to do.

Any with doubts about this should review the transcript of Tommy Franks' interview with Hannity the other night.

RATS do not open their mouths without damaging our foreign policy and militarty efforts this is a typical example which also shows the total gullibility of many who call themselves conservatives. They are lead around by the nose ONCE AGAIN by the Dan Rather press and have fallen so low as to believe ONE WORK from the mouths of Schumer/Clinton/Boxer/Murray collection of clowns.

You should be ashamed.

This Mob of Lunacy whippen up by the Treason Media/Party of Treason is a perfect example of why the Founders strictly limited day to day democratic input. Foreign policy based on Hysteria would not be too effective.

In those days once the governments were elected they were far more isolated from public opinion than now yet it was a principle concern even so that its impact be limited.

Who in their right mind could believe the Party of Treason has any concern about National Security and once again are damaging it by attacking a firm and loyal ally, the UAE.

"informed representation" is why we are a republic, not a democracy. You cannot count on the public being informed in the same way as it's servants without either making secrets public knowledge, or without eliminating the free press, and managing information.

Democratic ideal's are necessary, but we need to stop PUSHING the populace into believing that their moments of fickle, uninformed judgment have any real validity. That is the flaw of the democrats, they PUSH for a momentary political gain, but the nature of our government FORCES them to take an average of governance, rather than being allowed to dictate the policies of the moment.

Quick aside, There was a book I read a long time ago(18 or so years I think) called "War Birds" by R.M.M. Mulloch, it's a sci-fi piece, with very little sci-fi, but it does a great job of showing the weakness and brilliance of our form of governances. When you read it (which if you are a sci-fi fan I recommend) you can see a US v Europe v Developing nation subtext to it. It's really a great book, lots of issues addressed. AND! it was written by a chick, which is surprising (cuz it is so ideal in it's militarism) with one exception.

I did notice that is was the THIRD -- possible use of the word...and not nearly as descriptive or clear of intent as other words.

If you won't admit that both words I suggested were clearer ..then remain an unclear smart ass.

Now, I think I hear your mommy calling.... go away.

It was the right word actually. Preclude means to totally prevent, while contain means to prevent the spread. You don't think internecine Moslem violence would preclude Moslem violence on non Moslems do you? Of course not. My only assertion was that internecine violence would not serve to contain.

I am not trying to be a smartass. I am trying to be helpful to empower you to express yourself more effectively. Cheers.

" so that we can maintain an Ally for the moment"

You tell me by the votes of this so called "ally" at the U.N. and the shipment of arms and nukes through the ports of Dubai to Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, etc. and the libbing of Madeline Albright, Tom Dashle, Clinton, Dole and others to push this stinking buy out of our Country to people who want to see this country in a smoking putrid abyss that you consider these people an ally? You have got to be kidding me. Are you a conservative patriot? Or have you bought the Globalization of the USA in which any country, never mind that they desire our destruction can buy we the people out? This is our country. I didn't vote to sell off our port control to the UAE. Did you?

Excuse me? But Conservatives put Bush in office for the most part. Now either our President holds the values of the people who put him in office or he doesn't. It doesn't take a great mind to figure out this deal. Do you not know that under the Constitution We the People have the right to abolish Govenment when it no longer is Representative to the people?

The UN has nothing to do with it. It is a sub sect of an ideology that hates us, a sub sect that is willing to ally with us, ALSO, we have fundamental sovereignty, if at any moment, we distrust their actions we can cancel the contract; however, at the moment, they are allies, and we should absorb the bad press by those who are willing to hate muslims when it comes to doing a pissant job (and it IS a pissant job) but we should assuage IDENTIFIABLE terrorists when it comes to cartoons?

I think the the administration made the right TACTICAL move, based on a larger STRATEGIC goal.

I can get pissed off about anything, if I shrink it down to the moment, but this is a LARGE nation, with a LOT of problems. There might be concerns, but other than additional supervision, the only other option is betraying our own ideal's, OR deciding that we should kill everyone with a koran.

Actually, it doesn't. It allows for an impeachment of the executive. You get to vote the for executive, but once in office, he is the executive. To CHANGE executives, you must convince your Representatives to Impeach him. If you wanna change the Nature of governance, which is contained in this quote, then you must either utilize the threat of the second amendment (which is impossible) and revolt against the current FORM of government, OR you must find enough people who agree with you to start hashing out Amendments. You are GROTESQUELY wrong about the nature of your nation. F a Civics class, download a copy of the Constitution of The United States of America, with a complimentary reader contained within the "Declaration of Independence." Or contain yourself before you Lecture me about how you, a "conservative" who voted for the current president have the right to destroy the, IN FACT longest contiguous national government in the history of the world.

Any Sovereign nation, for purposes of self protection may not be held to any external contract, if valid reason is offered. Even if there ISN'T! we can do it, all we have to do is absorb 5 or 6 more UN resolutions deriding us. Thats to be expected.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security
