SEATTLE - Every week, Linda Swanberg puts together a care package and sends it to Iraq.
"This is laundry detergent, some power bars, little tuna salad things," she says, describing the box contents as she packs it. "I try to fill every little crevice."
Her son Shane was deployed in September, 2005. His letters home - via e-mail - are reassuring.
"Don't worry too much about me," one reads.
But moms worry about their soldiers. "It's painful to have the family over there. And it's a hard day until they get back," Linda says.
In a note on September 14th, Shane wrote, "I will start my first mission tomorrow."
In turned out to be his final e-mail.

Namsman sends.
I haven't cried this much in a long time.
Shane, we love you and thank you.
God Bless You Shane. And may He comfort those you leave behind.
Thanks for posting that! Still tearing as I type this. Tis precious that she still sends her son's buddies C.P's "from mom" and they write back with "thanks, and love your sons."
Tear jerker of a ping!
Can't bring myself to watch the video.
I wish that I could just give this woman a hug.
Powerful stuff. Thanks.
Ping for the group please!
Beautiful. Thanks.
Sure thing Radix!
Bookmarked!
Heartbreaking. God Bless his Mom and family. Prayers for our Troops safety.
Thanks for the post. Powerful.
I would like to send some things over to someone, I don't know anyone over there however.
What's the best way to find some folks to send things to?
RIP Shane, thank you for your service.

Mrs. Namsman is involved with the Washington State Chapter of the Blue Star Mothers and through them she met a dynamo of a woman named Vicki Mohler. Vicki is the founder of "Support America's Armed Forces". Her website can connect you with a point of contact for a deployed unit as well as information on what types of things to send. Here's the site: http://www.supportamericasarmedforces.com/adopt.html
There is a tremendous need for people to help. Lance Corporal Namsman Jr. has been well supplied during his deployment by family and friends but he has said that there are Marines in his unit that get little or no support from home. If you and other Freepers would like help a little or a lot, Vicki's site is the place to start.
