No wonder W got bent out of shape when our only capitalist beachhead in the ME was about to be thrown overboard.

That and the potential loss of the airfields from which bunker busters will be deposited on Iran's nucleur installations.

In the end, this sends another strong message to any potential evil-doers who might be in UAE, or thinking about it. Don't Mess with US.

oh- no- you don't have anything to apologize for at all.....

I am the one that was not clear with my words and thoughts...

I am just so sorry that I was so careless to hurt you in anyway... I couldn't bare the thought of losing your FRiendship and your trust in being able to disagree with me at the risk of me being hurtful to you....

I hope you realize that I would never do that intentionally...EVER!

In most cases from what I understand at present they are not being run totally by American companies.

"We are all ignorant, just about different things."

We're going to have to add Newt to the group that is not too well versed on the ports issue. Among other dumb things he said is that this is problematic and worrisome because the Dubai company is owned by the government so it is not a profit making venture.

That was so nice it makes me think so positive of new beginnings in Spring. It just so happens that several of my Citrus trees are blooming and looking so pretty with their Mauve and white blossoms, and the smell is terrific. It makes all the hard work worth while. The only drawback is I have to be careful of the dozens of bees that like my blossoms also. I am going to take a break to have brunch and look at my blossoms since it finally stopped raining. It is still nasty out with no Sun.

I cannot listen to his rants for three seconds. He ruins his own chances for better ratings by alienating everyone else's listeners.

I think he has the third most listeners of all radio talkshow folks. Not bad.

Btw, some of his rants that you don't much like are just shtick, entertainment.

Michael does get wound up, but he has a good heart and a brilliant mind, imo. He gets fired up because he care about the country. He's been around. The man knows more about life and the living than most folks here and everywhere. I appreciate his zest for and knowledge of life.

He is a very gentle and kind man, if you take the time to see.

Religion in Dubai: Bibles are now in bookstores. There are at least four churches in Dubai that I know: the Evangelical Community Church, the International Christian Church, the St Thomas Orthodox Church, the St Mary's Catholic Church, and the Holy Trinity Church (Anglican). They perform weddings and funerals besides regular church services. BTW, Christmas here in Dubai is much bigger than Ramadan. Christmas trees everywhere and all the stores, hotels, restaurants and bars make it a big promotion. Caroling is an important part of the tradition.

Dubai has become a party town--like Las Vegas. The bars/clubs are open to 5:00am every night. Attractive women from all over the world seem to migrate here. Pork is available in supermarkets. You can pick-up the best Scotch at the airport duty-free shops--and in nearly invisible liquor stores. I play golf every weekend. We have horse racing and gambling off-shore. Everyone can afford maids and gardeners. What else could you want? Life is good for ex-pats.

Exactly. These are the same people that say that terrorism isn't a threat and that the Prez and Pubbies are fear-mongering and use it as a scare tactic to win elections; and, so the President can obtain more power and is acting like a 'dictator' or 'king'. These are also the same ones that screamed about Bush and his admin doing racial profiling in screening people at airports, so little old ladies and kids are now screened, even though they didn't fly planes on 9/11. These are also the same ones that say that Muslims can't have a democratic, capitalistic state. Then scream when a Muslism capitalistic company wants to do even better by working with us. They are again (still?) trying to have it both ways and are again being arrogant, egotistical, hypocritical, bigotted demagogues.

LOL. Well, folks, now we know if they succeed in shutting down Christmas in this country where we can go to celebrate.

BUT to think the US can stop this company sale is somehow not dealing with corporate reality. The few US ports that are managed by Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation are not the only, nor are they the entire business portfolio of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation.

That's the part of this that I keep trying to hammer on, but I just can't break through to most people.  Their eyes glaze over and they just fall back on 'we don't want to turn over port security to them!

OK, we refuse permission for the UAE company to inherit the terminal operations contracts.  They would still probably buy P&O, just at a lower price.  The US would probably be forced to make up the difference in the price by the WTO for interfering in a legit business deal.  No biggie and the British firm would be made whole.  But that would leave a now pissed off UAE company in charge of the originating ports for our container shipping and we would have absolutely no leverage for getting them to cooperate in the most important part of security, inspection at point of origin.

Oh, and then we'd have to find a company to administer the port contracts that we'd nixed.  Who's left to turn to?  Hutchison Whampoa, which is partly owned by the Chinese military?

Brain dead!

At times I have been in my car on the way home from Shopping at WAlly World and too tired to adjust the radio dial and Savage is on and I just try to tune him out and on several occasions he sounds like he is preparing his audience for his eventual mental breakdown or stroke on the air. He is either pretending to be nuts or he is REALLY NUTS. You are fine.

You've understood correctly snugs, they're not. I was never comfortable with that, no offense to our international FRiends. I don't think any country should be in the position of a foreign concern running their ports, and I'd argue vigorously against it regardless of what countries were involved.

"Kean is living in his old fantasies & WH will never give a damn about what he says."

I can't help but ask why in the world was he chosen for the 9/11 Commission. He, along with the other Republicans who were chosen, were the worse group of RINOS on the planet.

Once Bush agreed to having the panel, he should have put pitbull Repubs on it. On second thought, do you know any pitbull Repubs?
