My wife likes scary movies and she caught the Asian horror bug (Ringu, the Grudge, etc..). We happened to watch two movies one night, one from Japan and one from Korea. I was amazed at the difference-Japan looked dingy and run down while Korea sparkled. I thought it might have been an exception to the rule but have since learned the opposite. Check out "Bittersweet Life" when it comes out on DVD (It's a 2005 movie so it may be a few more months). Seoul looks magnificent, the guy dresses like the Transporter, and his apartment is spectacular.
Thanks for the tip on the series-I will check it out.
If you ever want to see a GREAT movie about Communism and peoples attempts to escape it check out "The Tunnel" it's a German flick that takes place when the Berlin Wall was put up.
I go for the scary ones also. I have seen the Grudge,
Rungu and many others. My wife is from Southern China
who speaks Cantonese and Mandarin. I have recently started studying Mandarin. I spend my time watching Chinese series in Mandarin, we have the satellite Asian package, and
Chinese action and ghost movies. She likes the love stories - bla! It sounds like China and S.Korea are identical in regards to life style. The cities on the Chinese coast are modern and very pleasant to live in. I have been to China many times and as a matter of fact we have a 2 bedroom condo in one of the developments.
Thanks for the tips on the movies "Bittersweet Life" and "The Tunnel". If you decide to watch the series Damo beware it is one of the saddest films I have ever seen. You better have a couple boxes of Kleenex handy. LOL
