But WHY does he hate the USA? Is it because he's a Canadian? Or more likely because he's a professor?

Good question. I suspect it's because of his politics. He's obviously bright ... PHD in philosophy and degrees in piano theory. Has a real air of superiority. I do know I'm not anxious to discuss the issue with him. He is a jerk.

"He is a jerk."

Why did I guess it before you said it?

I would disagree. It is not obvious that he's bright (though it may be obvious that he thinks he's bright). Having a PhD in a mushy non-technical field simply means that he's persistent and had means. A PhD in these types of fields may have equated to intelligence once, but from what I have seen, there is no longer any correlation between (general) academic achievement and native intelligence.

That is one reason why academic credentials in and of themselves offer no rational basis for folks presuming an insight into matters of governing policy.

Does he believe they are created by an intelligent being or that they evolved from simple stringed instruments?

Wow, with a PhD in philosophy, at which chain does he bag groceries? I'm sure that he is entitled to other people's money though, given the high demand for those academic fields.

Succinct, but I'd like to hear what his POV is.
