Without first closing the anchor baby scheme, any guest worker program and immigration code overhaul is a foolish waste of effort.

We'd like them to have a working knowledge of English, both spoken and written.

I will take a look at it. I will esp be interested if they have figures as to illegal workers as to individual States and regions. FOr instance what is the percentage in areas that are booming versus areas like lets say Vermont that is having now a outward migration problem among its youth.

Furthermore what kind of Agricultural work. I suppose my family are classifyed as farm workers even though they own the farm for instance. However one person now with the help of just one or two workers can farm a pretty substantial area of cotton rice and soybeans. However once you get into such items as produce it becomes quite a different story. THe family down the road from my Uncle could not for instance survive in the Sweet Potato farming sector if he didnt have them harvesting. But I will take a look at it. I am open on this.

I really do question whether or not the Dems and media have been right all along about the intelligence level of our Pres. I defended him for a long time, and was very happy and hopeful to see him elected both times. But, on this issue, it is hard to label him anything other than another elitist, globalist, politician. I know alot of people here view him as this higher form of being, capable of doing no wrong, but he is dead wrong on this issue, and the country will pay dearly for his mistakes.

I'm a practicing Catholic who lives in Los Angeles. I detest Cardinal Mahony, but I assure you that what motivates him to speak out "courageously" in favor of Mexican illegal aliens has zero to do with money and everything to do with his own ego. Mahony doesn't give a damn if he bankrupts the Archdiocese; look at the horrible Cathedral he spent millions building! All mahony cares about is making himself look like some kind of liberal saint.

If they are anxious to work here, the least they can do is learn English. It's not difficult. And no special perks for college tuition, no children born here automatically citizens (the anchor baby law is a crazy law that has to be repealed).

Couldn't agree more.

Or is the issue to many we dont want Mexicans workers here at all because since they are here they depress wages. Just curious

Yep, that's it. Also, the volume and lack of diversity in immigration has cultural implications that go beyond the economic factors.

Committee staff members, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said applicants for the gold card would undergo a background check by the Homeland Security Department, then be eligible for two-year work visas that could be renewed indefinitely.

You'll notice this is for anyone and everyone south of the Rio Grande...At any time...Any and all applications will be approved after a security background check...

You are supporting a 'third world' U.S.A...

Wink, wink. Shrug, shrug. Are you and employer of mexican illegals?

There used to be a "bayourod" who was a tireless shill for illegal immigrants until he got banned.

I'll admit, I savaged him a few times first.

LOl I wonder who this bayourod was. Well I am not a tiresome relentless advocate for illegal immigrants. I have know somein the past . My closest interation now is when I assist in taking communion to people of lets say questionable status and a occasional mass where I am a over grown altar boy basically out in the middle of no where helping out a priest and making sure he is safe.

I just think there is room here for compromise between let them all come in and deport them all the mexicans are worthless.

Your spelling is even worse than my typing.

But you're giving the game away by deliberately mischaracterizing those who oppose illegal immigration as 'Mexicans are worthless'...

Typical dishonest bilge.

The problems are these:

1) Disproportionate among the ILLEGAL immigrants are gang members, coyotes, and drug dealers. Such activities undermine the greater society.

2) ILLEGAL immigrants are generally paid under the table, using fake Social Security numbers, thereby cheating the IRS out of revenue which must then be made up by others.

3) ILLEGALS are paid much less than legal workers, lowering the wage base, and putting more citizens out of work. No, not all of the citizens are supporting families, but there are many citizens on unemployment, or welfare, who would not be.

4) ILLEGALS skip the hell out of town after traffic violations or wrecks. Guess who picks up the cost?

5) Look up the statistics on the proportion of ILLEGALS in state and county jails (for robbery, drug-dealing, rape, etc.) Then do the same for Federal Prisons. Due process and incarceration is expensive.

6) ILLEGALS consume a disproportionate share of health care costs and school budgets.

Ever hear of the quaint old concept called "the melting pot"? People from other countries are supposed to ASSIMILATE according to shared ideals, and ideally, language, WITHOUT REGARD to the color of their skin.

By trying to make the issue about race, rather than BEHAVIOUR, you are proving that you are the racist.

Cheers!

I am talking about the extreme opinion. There was a poster above that was interacting with me that basically said that. Look above you can see it. Again if a certain person exhibits that attitude I call them on it. I am not condemning everyone that has serious problems with this immigration policy as it is currently.

That settles it. You are far too agreeable and intellectually honest to be bayourod.

Unless you just haven't reached pupa status yet. ;-)

Cheers!

Let me engage your post a little bit more since you took some time with it.. Again I was referring to a extreme position. I know a little bit about the cost element. At one time I worked for the DA' office in Shreveport. I cant tell you how many times the Parish got stuck with the bill because the Feds would never come pick these illegals up. I understand the issue on Drugs. I used to work in the Drug Court. The biggest non security factor you mention that has merit to me is the depression of wages issue. I am torn on this to be honest. I have heard argument on both sides. I think in this same thread I went to lengths to say that the assimilatiion issue was a major concern. If not in this one its was in the thread that referenced illegals finding jobs in the MIDWEst.(That is prob where my interaction with Hispanic culture is worthless lady occured if its not here..) Anywho. I dont want a Mexican version of Quebec here in the USA. Assimilation is a biggie to me.
