Fresno police initiate DUI sting
The Fresno Bee ^ | 3-8-06 | Tim Eberly

"Fresno police are taking enforcement of drunken driving laws to a new level — which officers expect will bring both success and outrage. Saturday night, the traffic unit unveiled a new operation in which plainclothes police officers stake out bars and target drunk patrons. If the heavy drinkers get behind the wheel, officers in unmarked cars follow them and call in marked police cars to pull them over."

Not an officer anymore. Retired last November after 30 years. Believe me or not, your chart is BS.

The reason I ask is that in Washington state you must commit a violation before being stopped.

LOL. The law says you can not be stopped without commiting a violation and the police report will respect the law and show a violation. Pick one.

Possible a huge lawsuit.

Imagine hearing a witness tell this in a courtroom" " Officer Pinket, knew John was drunk and watched John get in his car and drive off. Officer Pinket followed him for about a tenth of a mile when suddenly John swerved into the oncoming lane and ran head on into an oncoming car, killing the mother and two of her three daughters in the car. Had officer Pinket stopped john from leaving the parking lot John, the mother and her two daughters would be alive today."

Ahhh! The Great Police Conspiracy. I forgot. Kind of like the Right Wing Conspiracy. You forgot the "jackbooted thug" part.

The Great Police Conspiracy.

It's not a conspiracy. It a damn fact. I grew up around cops all my life and a couple of them were real pricks (one who I knew very well eventually ended up on the other side of the bars and not even for the worst thing he ever did). Another, who I have to admit I don't know very well was a neighbor of mine until a few months ago when he moved to Club Fed to start a 2-5 year stretch for stealing "evidence" from the station house. His house is still for sale if you're interested. I think the US Court gets to proceeds to cover the fine.

Most cops are decent guys. But not a one of them was Atticus Finch or even Joe Friday when it came to straight and narrow legal issues. They worked the system just like everyone else. If a cop wants to pull you over, they will do it and worry about what "violation" you may have committed later. There are thousands to pick from.

What I meant was that the test is not a test in the sense that if you "pass", you get to go on your way. Its an evidence collection technique. Besides, there are other factors that determine or contribute to the determination of sobriety.

Don't doubt the crooked cop stories. There are problem children in every field.
Didn't know that you knew every cop in the U.S. As far as "worked the system" goes, depends on what you mean by that. If you mean perjury, false reporting, etc, that isn't working the system, that's criminal behavior. I agree that some officers do that, as well. Most don't, for a very simple reason. The public is not worth going to jail for. When I was a cop I would take calculated risks to save another, but I would not risk my honor, career or the chance to spend time in jail by lying to put some one in jail. The public wasn't worth it. The vast majority of troopers I worked with felt the same way, and had disdain for those who did not.

Another one on the front page in my local rag just today.

Ex-chief deputy pleads guilty

The former top deputy in the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to five felony charges and likely will spend more than four years in prison after he is sentenced in June.

Although prosecutors will drop seven charges in exchange for former Chief Deputy Dennis Skosnik's guilty pleas, a written agreement with prosecutors makes no mention of any requirement that he cooperate in the ongoing investigation into campaign finance abuses and other misconduct in Sheriff Pete DeFazio's office.

Excuse me if I don't get all sentimental at the sight of a badge.

sheesh...

ya think?

of course, most of the folks at the bars in Fresno will offer up a Matricular card after they drive into a CHP officer.

Well you go ahead and drive drunk knowing then by your standards that when you do finally harm someone you give up your life, wether to prison or to the DP....you game to take that risk?

Is that English?

I drive safely every time I put my ass in the seat. How many accidents have you caused, or failed to avoid?

Oh, really! So cops should commit perjury to send someone to prison, eh? I'm not "kinda glad" you are not a cop, but very thankful. Your moniker should be trailerpark trash.

I have to laugh at everyone on this thread that is advocating coming down hard on drinkers, while 90 year old granny that has severly diminished capabilities is allowed to roam the streets in her Crown Victoria, mowing down pedestrians. AT MY DRUNKEST, I could drive better than 99% of old people - that's a FACT.

Would 'shoot on sight' be considered 'advocating coming down hard on drinkers' (and drivers)? Then you are laughing at me. More-friends-and-relatives-killed-by-drunk-drivers-than-granny-drivers ping.

Aw, hell.

Just ban production, sale, distribution, posession, consumption of the stuff.

Oops, I forgot. That's already been tried.
