Fresno police initiate DUI sting
The Fresno Bee ^ | 3-8-06 | Tim Eberly

"Fresno police are taking enforcement of drunken driving laws to a new level — which officers expect will bring both success and outrage. Saturday night, the traffic unit unveiled a new operation in which plainclothes police officers stake out bars and target drunk patrons. If the heavy drinkers get behind the wheel, officers in unmarked cars follow them and call in marked police cars to pull them over."

Please make alcohol and tobacco illegal again. That will bring this whole farce of a war on drugs crashing down. Might bring some other things crashing down, as well.

We're well on the way, and you're right in your assessment.

I don't get sentimental at the sight of a badge, either. On the other hand, I don't run around kicking crap on every one in a particular field because of the misconduct of a few. You keep forgetting to throw in the jackbooted thug/brown shirt descriptions.

The fact is that it isn't the drinking that people are coming down on. It is in FACT the DRIVING in combination with the drinking that is the issue.

Well, you are partially correct. Actually, driving is the issue.

We're all "impaired" by something when we drive, be it noises, conversation, pretty things on the side of the road, or any number of distractions that life brings.

Maybe we should just ban the wheel and go back to foot or saddle stock traffic.

That would be interesting.

if you understand it, you're misinformed or very confused.

Blue State has an axe to grind. Any argument based on reason is pointless.

I must wonder if drinking alcohol in a restaurant or a bar will not become as de facto illegal as smoking in public is now in many places

In practicality, it already is.

Most people just don't know it yet.

Soon, they will.

It is still legal to purchase alcohol. Transporting or consuming it under any circumstances and in any amount is a problem.

It is the driving that is contested.

Driving at all, under any circumstances is now contested, thanks to you MADD moms.

I never said that. I said that 0.08 is not a reasonable limit.

Science exited the equation at about .15

Politics took over at that point.

My advice for people out drinking and dining in bars and restaurants

Please excuse me for pointing out that that is a recipe for disaster (unfortunately).

I like it. It's also time to set the limit at .05, and impound the vehicle for 30 days. It would reduce the number of criminals behind steering wheels...

I not even gargle with mouthwash.

Smooth move.

Don't forget to answer the question about ingestion of drugs with "No", even if it's only Tylenol.

Drink - do not drive. Is it all that hard?

I had no trouble with any of these.

You got lucky.

The trooper was gathering evidence to convict you, had he wanted you for ANY reason.

Congratulations, and be careful out there.

Don't forget about the "counseling" industry which gets a steady stream of clients under court order.

They're the same people. Add the ignition interlock franchise operators.

it's a CRASH

Interesting how language works.

The word "Crash" implies a cause, which presents an opportunity for sometimes hysterical legislation against the cause, which leads to stings and roadblocks, which leads to SWAT teams invading houses in the middle of the night, which leads to tyranny.

That is correct.

Emotions and hysteria have taken over.

Drink - do not drive. Is it all that hard?

Not at all, and that is what I and most other people practice.

Unfortunately, due to the zealotry of MADD and their ilk, it's not about just that anymore.

I'm willing to bet that even you could be convicted of DUI - every time you drive.

This thread has some whoppers on it...fantical defense of drinking and driving.

Good thing Clinton's defense wasn't that he had been drinking and was driving with Monica - he would be a cult hero here on FR...
